In the fall of 1998, Jim and I made a pilgrimage to Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. (There's an essay about it in John Sears' excellent book Sacred Places : American Tourist Attractions in the Nineteenth Century).
Not only did we get to sleep in a wigwam (background picture: Wigwam Village) and explore the world's largest continuous cave, but we also had a very nice solo visit to the local wax museum.
Best of all, perhaps, wasn't even on the itinerary: Golgotha Fun Park.
