He's from Canada isn't he?

No he's not. I am wrong.

Born in southern California and current Seattle resident. So, he's as American as apple pie and electing Austrian bodybuilders governor.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

and i have a tattoo of his work and everything. I should be ashamed.

Heh. I've read that he disapproves of such uses of his stuff. Whatcha got? A jiva? Pupshaw? Creepy winking frog?

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:52 (twenty years ago)

I asked his permission. He said yes. In fact I maintained contact with his wife throughout the late 90's so I reckon it's okay :)

Well, who am I to argue, then?

Still curious, but I understand that tattoos are highly personal things.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:58 (twenty years ago)

Oh, it's a grinning bear. People always think it's a monkey though.

He does have an awfully long tail.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 10 June 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

Thats the one.

I actually don't really think it's typical of his other work, but it has a vintage cartoonish look to it which appealed to me.

You fondle my trigger then you blame my gun / Kate (papa november), Friday, 10 June 2005 04:09 (twenty years ago)

It's definitely not typical of his current work, as far as I can see, now that he's working mostly in charcoal, watercolor, and litho. But even though it was uncredited when I first saw it in the record store, I knew instantly it was his.

Anyway, he's my favorite artist, and I'm prejudiced toward the greatest living American being a creator of some sort, so that's the natural choice for me.

If you see him, say "hi" and "thanks" for me, 'k?

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 10 June 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

Not likely, I live in Australia :) I used to communicate with his wife via email.

He could travel! (Actually, I have emailed with Mary a teensy bit myself, and know some artsy fartsy types in Seattle who might know him. Plus I stay on the same continent, albeit about 2,500 miles away.)

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 10 June 2005 04:18 (twenty years ago)

Well that would help.

PS - put something on that homepage, why don'cha!

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 10 June 2005 04:22 (twenty years ago)

Heh, sorry. I'm a slacker I know :)
