You fondle my trigger then you blame my gun / Kate (papa november), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:19 (twenty years ago)

I don't believe I've ever seen any of her films.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:20 (twenty years ago)

Actually I think I only saw her on Dawson's creek....once. That was more than enough.

You fondle my trigger then you blame my gun / Kate (papa november), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:21 (twenty years ago)

She's sincerely a whistlehead.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

We're a bit behind in letterman eps.. what did she do that showed up her dumbarsedness? I wanna know :D

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 10 June 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

The swimming-with-dolphins "anecdote" (which went absolutely nowhere) was particularly telling.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 June 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 10 June 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

I always thought she was kind of smart (haven't seen the Letterman interview yet).

letterman hates and talks down to women--susan sarrandon appeared stupid on his show

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 10 June 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

Doesnt he talk down to everyone? He seems a bit "youre a child" in his general demeanour really.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 10 June 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

He was almost visibly aroused in this instance. He likes young Katie, it seems.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 June 2005 05:38 (twenty years ago)

Ewwwwwwwwwww

You fondle my trigger then you blame my gun / Kate (papa november), Friday, 10 June 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

....but yeah, he did speak to her like her randy uncle.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 June 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

i liked her in Go

H (Heruy), Friday, 10 June 2005 06:04 (twenty years ago)

she was also very good in Pieces of April, which triggered a bit of crushing on my part that has been completely extinguished by the events of the last couple of months.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Friday, 10 June 2005 06:11 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, i liked that film too

H (Heruy), Friday, 10 June 2005 06:13 (twenty years ago)

Did Dave offer her a pizza?

OMG a celebrity comes off stupid on a stupid talk show? THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

from imdb:

After Leno admitted Cruise's behavior was at the "silliest" he'd ever seen, the actor added, "It's a thing that I wish for everyone. I like hearing good news and I like hearing about people when they're happy... She's a terrific lady and great lady." And Holmes is "proud" of her beau's latest antics, cooing Thursday morning, "I'm so happy. I watched Leno last night and I was, like, blushing and so happy and excited. I'm so proud. I love him. I love his outfit, too!"

KATIE GET ONE STRAIGHT BOYFRIEND

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

Doesnt he talk down to everyone?

Not everyone - there are some regular guests who he clearly respects, but for the most part, yes.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

Movies are not escape for me; Tom Cruise himself is my escape. My relief and refuge. When I am tense and overwhelmed I seek him out. I seek His face. Tom Cruise should be bottled and sold. Cruuuise. Crusitol. LOVE HIM.

Aaron A., Friday, 10 June 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Chris Klein was like SOOOOO close, dude! He was engaged to her! For a year! He was like THIS close to hitting that shit. Now Cruise is prancing around like the Shermanator or something. Total bummer.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Letterman has a thing for Paris Hilton too. It's funny watching Dave talk to her, because it seems like he's trying to decide if she's really as dumb as she acts or if it's all a brilliant act. The last time I saw her on the show, he seemed to be coming around to the second interpretation - in any case, he was obviously gratified to have her on the show.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

It was a weird sort of paradox on The Simple Life that Nicole had all the personality and Paris had all the charisma. But no, Paris is not 'smart'.

Aaron A., Friday, 10 June 2005 13:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, on that show it was right after Nicole had been canned from Simple Life, and Dave was trying to get Paris to say something mean about her, but she wouldn't do it.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

I think Paris has allowed all the ditz shit to undermine her personality and confidence. When she loosens up she's sparkling... but she was completely closed off on that Letterman apperance (when she was hawking the makeup)

Aaron A., Friday, 10 June 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

She did seem kind of intimidated by Dave. I think it's normal for people who haven't been on the show very many times or lack a bit of confidence to worry that he's trying to make them look stupid or say something they'll regret, so she did seem very circumspect.

Dave likes to give his guests a hard time. He's not a soft touch like Leno. But when they show they can handle it, he respects them. Chris Rock completely blew him away when he was on recently peddling his new "Madagascar" movie. Rock was obviously so on, that Dave pretty much gave up on trying to steal any of the spotlight for himself or getting any good lines in, he basically just sat back and watched and he even clapped at the end when Rock left, which he doesn't usually do.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

I had no idea she was this...ummmm.....stupid.

How could you not?
Actress... on talk show... believes what she does is work... get real!

Shizzy Koala, Friday, 10 June 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

apparently he made her drop out of the edie sedgwick biopic cuz sedgwick saw a therapist.

j blount (papa la bas), Friday, 10 June 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

he claims in entertainment weekly that he'd never heard of that film nor had he ever even heard the rumour. of course he also claims in entertainment weekly that Jung was a nazi secretary and that methadone was originally named Adolphone and named after Hitler, so I mean, he's clearly a dumbfuck.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 10 June 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't say Dave really tries to steal the spotlight - I think he appreciates guests who come out prepared to be interesting and entertain the audience. If they're boring, then he has to keep things lively by throwing more one-liners in.

That's for celebrities anyway - when he has average people on, he probably expects to shoulder more of the work.

wetmink (wetmink), Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

Wow. I just googled that and read it, and then did like 30 seconds of research and found the Adolphine thing is not only an urban myth but was a joke made up in the 70s to try and discredit methadone. The fact Cruise will willingly peddle complete and utter lies like that is frightening. I am really starting to wonder how entangled his whole life and career is in maniupulation and LRon propoganda.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

next thing you know, cruise will be inveighing against phenomenology!!

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

Seems to me like celebrity S**olgoists like Tom have been brainwashed at a sort of mild level, at least far enough to really believe that stuff. Whereas the rank-and-file receive the full treatment because they don't need to come across as reasonably sane in public.

wetmink (wetmink), Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, we've really got to stop those Scatologists.

Smurfologists

I didn't want all those little blue googlers running around here, you know how they get...

wetmink (wetmink), Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

Tom Cruise doesn't use email. He says his moral code requires him to respond to each one personally, and there are just too many of them. So he told his assistants to "take it away" after the first day. I guess he meant the computer.

Anyway, this thread is about Katie Holmes and I thought she was magnificent in Go.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 11 June 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

Didn't he say at the beginning of his interview with her that she had been on the show several times before?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 11 June 2005 01:43 (twenty years ago)

I missed the Letterman interview, but to viewers I ask: is it true she totally flubbed her way through the explanation of how her & Cruise met?
I read that she muffed it because Cruise's sister/publicist hasn't gotten around to vetting an appropriate story yet, and they've just had to make it up as they go along...

at least that's what Defamer's telling me...

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 11 June 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

She's not bad in The Gift. Even though she's dead for most of it.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Saturday, 11 June 2005 07:47 (twenty years ago)

But look, this is a hell of gutsy alpha female move for her. I mean, to break out of the Hollywood babe pack and not only snag Tom Cruise but have him boinging around on talk-show couches gushing about your greatness? If she progresses on to Johnny Depp I'll be twice as impressed.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Saturday, 11 June 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

I don't think she was stupid, just very self-aware. Tom had obviously trained her not to say anything negative. I found it funny when he asked her where they had met. She dodged the question but not very well. She's cute and smart, but not smart enough to steer clear of the Cruise.

nathalie's post modern sleaze fest (stevie nixed), Saturday, 11 June 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

(And by the way, it doesn't mean jackshit if they met during a date that's set-up. It's probably not easy for a guy like Cruise to *randomly* meet a new partner.)
