pain... >swallow< ARgh!... too much.

Alan Trewartha, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

awww Alan i do sympathise. mine has been bad for a good few days now. all i can recommend is to drink plenty of hot drinks - pref. herbal teas as too many teas and coffees will send you mental and keep you o the loo all day!

katie, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Raising his parched lips to the hot sun, he hoarsely whispered one word. The word was 'Chloroseptic'. Happy spraying!

My Dad insisted the best cure was gargling with salt water. But that just made me gag.

Will, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I too have been told that gargling with salt water works. But i have never had a sore throat so I cannot say for sure.

Pete, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

pete. what r being your secret of no sore throat. you are from planet krypton?

Alan Trewartha, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't use chloraseptic - it made me wee blood.A sore throat is preferable to that.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete avoids illness by having a sickness whipping boy i.e. me as I get ill twice as often as normal folk to make up for his unbreakability. Drink lots of fluids but not alcohol / caffeine or other diuretics.

i have hogged the office water cooler and am off to loo more often than is strictly healthy i think. (perhaps this is why i occasionally go into a trance and when i come round i've posted strange things -- well that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it)

Alan Trewartha, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

five years pass...

so i've had this sore throat for like a week now. i'm pretty sure i got it from a guy. the timing was suspicious.

it hurts very badly. i have to take pills and chloroseptic to not go crazy. hot liquids help.

i think i should go to the doctor tomorrow, cuz it seems odd that it's still extremely painful after a week (it's been like 9 days to be exact)

right? =(

Yes. Could be strep.

Laurel, Sunday, 26 August 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

I found an outrageous claim on the internet that gargling with cayenne pepper would heal a sore throat in 24 hours, and I tried it and it worked! Impressive, because I get the worst sore throats.

wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 26 August 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)

More specifically, it recommended 5 shakes from a spice shaker into about 6 oz warm-to-hot water. Gargle long and often. Apple cider vinegar was also mentioned as being very effective.

Surmounter, Saturday, 26 April 2008 04:25 (seventeen years ago)

I'm just getting over mine, cold too. Well sort of. What I assumed were its last dying breaths have steadily lingered for about a week now. My entire band, 3/4 of my house, bandmates/roommates girlfriends, everyone got it all at once.

RabiesAngentleman, Saturday, 26 April 2008 12:20 (seventeen years ago)

this shit was gnarlesville this past week. pretty much over it now, except for a little scratchyscratchy when i first wake up. those first two days were unbelievably miserable, though. then it turned into a head cold, then i coughed up massive globs of green and white phlegm, and now i feel a LOT better.

ian, Saturday, 26 April 2008 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

should i go to dr. or just wait it out?? i dont have insurance. but it could be strep or some shit right?

deej, Saturday, 26 April 2008 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

must be flu season all over, me and everyone i know has this shit.

J.D., Saturday, 26 April 2008 14:46 (seventeen years ago)

how bad is it exactly? what's the skinny

RabiesAngentleman, Saturday, 26 April 2008 14:46 (seventeen years ago)

just really painful swelling. im also constantly exhausted - i tried going running tuesday and couldnt make it at all (which is when i started feeling sick). called in sick wed. and slept literally all day.

deej, Saturday, 26 April 2008 14:51 (seventeen years ago)

Wow. That's pretty much how I felt during the thick of it, though I wasn't sleeping much. I can NEVER sleep when I'm sick. Super light sleeper. I didn't have the swelling though, which sounds a bit worrisome.

Anyone other than me have thoughts on it? I haven't had anything like this that I haven't pretty much recovered from in a week, but I'm sort of a freak of nature and I'm almost never sick.

RabiesAngentleman, Saturday, 26 April 2008 15:10 (seventeen years ago)

gah. i slept for 12 hours last night on a double dose of nyquil.

lauren, Saturday, 26 April 2008 16:46 (seventeen years ago)

deej if u can see white stuff on your throat or tonsils (n/h) then its serious like strep or tonsilitis, otherwise just ride it out

max, Saturday, 26 April 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

i woke up at 4 am in serious pain, it gets worse at night cause when i lie down theres a constant postnasal drip

max, Saturday, 26 April 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)
