the next day it was corrected with a sharpie.

some urban farming craft bozos were keeping one or more beehives on the rooftop down the street. today a beehive sits abandoned on the sidewalk outside, bees buzzing about in encouragingly languid and nonthreatening circles. "punks," i thought.

oh btw the building that was home to the beehive is a loft that's been converted into 'luxury' places. the building the beehive was left in front of is a residential facility providing "long term transitional housing and on-site support services to 40 adults with psychiatric disabilities and a history of homelessness." privilege, ladies and gentlemen.

I mean the bees aren't gonna do anything/hurt anybody... unless someone tries to move it
i've passed along some numbers for beekeeping associations in the area so hopefully a safe removal can be accomplished. also hopeful that the neighborhood's various security cameras caught the schmucks that did this, they deserve to be on the cover of the daily news with a mocking headline e.g. "HIVE BEEN A BAD BOY"

― And the cry rang out all o'er the town / Good Heavens! Tay is down (imago), Monday, 23 May 2016 20:12 (nine years ago)
the cops cordoned off the area and i just saw the beehive loaded into the back of a car by someone in a beekepers' suit and gauntlets, with lots of boxes/canisters of something, labeled "BEE." we were told that it would be taken to one of the area botanical gardens or something like that. the neighborhood in general seemed pretty entertained aside from the backed-up through traffic.
― bucyrus ohio, vus cun nus en l’aria (Doctor Casino), Monday, 23 May 2016 20:41 (nine years ago)
wish i'd had a beehive rather than a sinkhole now
my road's going to be closed for like another month
― And the cry rang out all o'er the town / Good Heavens! Tay is down (imago), Monday, 23 May 2016 20:43 (nine years ago)
is it possible someone else in the posh flats didnt like the beehive being there and stole it and put it out to trash?
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 23 May 2016 22:51 (nine years ago)
bees would've swarmed if that happened, most likely
― Οὖτις, Monday, 23 May 2016 22:52 (nine years ago)
if you move the queen while a substantial portion of the hive is out foraging, they freak out

well okay but 1) a random stretch of the sidewalk is not the trash 2) especially when what youre handling is basically a booby trap or biohazard that at the least creates a huge hassle for strangers wherever you leave it and 3) they didn't leave it in front of their own building but in front of the neighbors. whoever did it, they're scum
