I never knew...

So I realized tonight while watching Beyond the Sea (which incidentally was better than I thought it would be but still kind of weird, oh that kooky Kevin Spacey) that I really, really love big, choreographed dance numbers.

Tell me of things that you have recently realized about yourself. Important things, unimportant things, trivial things, meaningul things, whatever, doesn't matter - just things.

I am a product of language, and yet this language is not mine.

I will never be a partier.

I never knew just how much I was hurting myself by keeping all the anger in.

I love the desert.

Turns out I like Pavement. (Or at least Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. I have a $9.95 for a used copy of the 2-CD L.A.'s Desert Sounds reissue to thank for that.)

99-cents-a-loaf off-brand white bread! hi, i'm poor white trash.

"i like," that is.

Also, and I admit that I may have suspected this one but still, trying to replicate said dance numbers in a crowded living room after a couple beers? Not as easy as you'd think.

If I ever get in a fight, I want to prance up to my (inevitably) felled opponent like the Axe Gang leader did at the beginning of Kung Fu Hustle

also I never knew I was a good golfer. I hadn't played in six years until a few weeks ago and apparently added 100 yards to my drive. Can't put worth a damn, though! Short game costs me big time. Especially on those fast greens. I can't work the slopes, neither. Fuck's wrong with me? Shit, I need to hit up that minigolf place in Sherman Oaks again.

I'm really good at ignoring problems in my life, if I get a little irrational burst of excitement about something it'll keep me going in oblivion about my problems until they come up again. I'm not knocking this, I think it is actually quite a good survival technique.

My balance between being social and being private is finer and more flexible than I realized.

for a second there the last five words of that sentence were the only ones that registered with me, Ned, and a grim and mercifully brief little film played in my head.

Now I imagine you imagining me as Gumby and I fret.

I am utterly inept at making that transition from liking a girl to dating her.

(i knew this would be your thread)

that i really like dark rum
that i do voices w/o being conscious of it
that i'm hardly ever sick, and i used to get sick all the time. maybe that got my immune system in shape.
that very quickly after something changes, it becomes normal/"the way things are" to me. which can be a good thing or a bad thing.
that while playing basketball I try to do two moves at once.
