Freckles - C/D?

I've just had a look at my face in the mirror, and I'm covered in the things. What is it with freckles that make blokes look like the one that got beaten up at school? Sexy blokes do not have freckles. Dud.

Saying that, they look k-phroar on the ladeez. Is it as easy as that? On girls=classic, on boys=dud?

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Monday, 13 June 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

do they really look phwoar on ladeez? i'm getting some on my shoulders.

metal assembly (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

Oh, so classic. I wish I had some. I sometimes get like three of them on my nose, but that's too few, they just look like spots or dirt or something. Redheads with loads of freckles = pretty.

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

They look AMAZING on the female of the species, yes. Emma Bunton's career is based upon cynical use of freckles.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

I like freckles on boys too!

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

Lindsay Lohan to thread. ;-) It was cute when she was a red-head but now, with blonde hair, it's a major dud. I think in moderation they are cute.

I am pro-freckles because I get freckley in the summer.

I had a redhead friend in middle school though that had so many freckles you could barely see her true skin tone underneath it all. Another friend and I would torture her by trying to connect her dots with our pens all the time in class.

I have seen the Lohan shoulder freckles in person and they were GOOD.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 13 June 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

Freckles are usually pretty classic.

Question brought up by the Lohan picture though - when you have freckles down your shoulders and arms and neck and cleavage, how far down do they go? Is your entire body covered?

Maria (Maria), Monday, 13 June 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

Spencer in in person shocker.

(...will you ask her out for me? k thx)

giboyeux (skowly), Monday, 13 June 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

Maria, I have freckles like Lindsay Lohan's...actually a little worse on the shoulders...and while I cannot vouch for her, in my case, no, no they do not cover my entire body or really anything BESIDES my face, cleavage, shoulders, and arms...I think it's just to do with the fact that you get a lot more incidental sun exposure on those areas, whereas generally most other areas only get pretty purposeful exposure, like sunbathing on the beach or by a pool, which isn't enough to make them as bad as the upper torso and face would get?

Allyzay flies casual (allyzay), Monday, 13 June 2005 20:31 (twenty years ago)

Saying that, they look k-phroar on the ladeez. Is it as easy as that? On girls=classic, on boys=dud?

Freckles are awesome. There is nothing cuter on this earth.

How can I get them, without going in the sun and getting all burned? Or drawing them on?

Also, I just wanted to post this picture. I never fancied him til I realised he had freckles.

It was the only picture I could find where her freckles weren't airbrushed out of existence.

Yeah, I never understood why Sawyer calls her Freckles since she doesn't appear to actually have any on the show.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 January 2007 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

I grow freckles, they're like reddish, and sometimes pus-filled. They're sort of spotty, around my face. Funny, it seems to take nothing to bring on them on and no-one seems to find them endearing.

CURSE YOU GOD FOR MAKING ME THIS WAY.

She did! There were children's books involved!

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

Going back to the red hair thing, is it safe to assume the UK disdain for it comes from snobbery toward the Irish? (I'm using "snobbery" there as a polite word to encompass lots of stuff worse than just snobbery, obviously.)

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

You mean like racialism?

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

I think it was definitely racialist snobbery, but too all Celts, not just the Irish. Just general disdain towards the indiginous peoples.

(Also, perhaps anti-Semitism, through the Judas thing.)

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

(We got into this before on another thread, but then again, Emsk insisted that the Welsh were just as horrible to gingers as the English. Even though every Welsh person I know is, err, ginger.)

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

Ha, yeah, exactly, although I went with "snobbery" cause it seems like modern forms of this in the UK might be animated by class stuff, like red hair = working-class Irish-immigrant "Northern" etc.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry, I meant to type "just as animated by class" -- you know, the standard thing where racial dominance conveniently evolves into class dominance, and then people have theoretically class-based prejudices against exactly the races they've helped make lower-class.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

It would only be Classist if it were disdain of Normans against pre-settling Saxons.

but let's not get into all that again... :-)

I finally did, on the Sandbox site - with children's books, exactly! Freckles are not very obvious, though (partially due to foundation makeup coverage - also they have faded a lot since I was younger; I am an obsessive sunscreen user these days).

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 5 January 2007 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

Freckles are nice, but how does one prevent sun spots?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 5 January 2007 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

I think one has them lasered off in middle-age somewhere, Mary. Or gets over it.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 5 January 2007 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

You need to wear sunscreen every day which will help with that. Freckles and sunspots are basically all different words for the same thing anyway. I use the Lubriderm with the SPF15 in it for daily wear because it is not all "sunscreeny" which I hate :(

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Friday, 5 January 2007 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I have a Neutrogena with 15 SPF that I wear when I remember to, but I don't think it's helping.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 5 January 2007 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

i had to go look in the mirror to see if i had freckles. i do. on nose. (i only notice them in the summer - and i guess one looks past these things when they are on face all the time.)
(i've been wearing sunblock since the age of like 14 and have never not had freckles.)

Mary (Mary), Friday, 5 January 2007 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, I just looked at a website and it said sun spots do not occur until after age 40, so maybe I am mistaken about my complextion (or prematurely aging). Something to look forward to, anyway.

Freckles = skin cancer risk in my family so I hate having to try and check all my damn spotty-spot-spots to make sure none have gone feral or changed colour this week or whatever. I have one alarming one that's taken off and gone a funny shape I think I need to have seen to :(

Laurel (Laurel), Saturday, 6 January 2007 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

the reason that is too much is because I fear for what their skin is going to look like in 10 years, or if they will develop melonoma--it's obvious they're both sunburnt and have earned those freckles through hard work trying to achieve a skin tone not meant for them :\

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Saturday, 6 January 2007 06:40 (nineteen years ago)

One of my exes had freckles absolutely everywhere. She was also totally paranoid about them growing into moles and other things, so I used to get to spend glorious hours "checking her markings..." *sigh*

So yeah, freckles on girls are amazingly hot.

Stone Monkey, Saturday, 16 May 2009 09:39 (sixteen years ago)

Freckles are great on both girls and guys in moderation. I have some permanent ones on my face and get more on my nose in the summer. If I didn't care about skin cancer or wrinkles I'd forgo sunblock on my face to up the freckle potential. I have some permanent ones on my face and get them on my nose in the summer and have them on my shoulders and back pretty much all the time.
