Okay, part three of the epic. In this case I don't think there is anyone from ILX there aside from the way cool Ms. Nathalie, who along with her husband are hosting me in Bruges. We're all actually attending the MIA show in Brussels on the 14th! So is there anyone else in the area? (Plz note I will be in Amsterdam next after this stopover.)

Wow, this is great news! I didn't even realize there were more ILXors in Belgium after Jeff departed! I will only be able to make it at around 7,30 which sucks (or not depending on whether you think I'm a bitch hah!). :-)

I went to belgium for work on friday. Here are my Brussels tips.

3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze, 3 Fonteinen Oude Kreik, very sour but very tasty Lambic based beers, the geuze is the better beer though.

The Place Saint Géry and around, nice bars record shops etc.

Le Roi des Belges, on the Place Saint Géry, very nice cheap lunch in a belgian style without being one of those ghastly places on the Route de Bouchers.

The Delirium Bar for the novelty of a telephone directory sized beer list (2004 beers), it's probably ghastly during the evening though, it's right in the tourist hell district, it's the sort of place americans seem to feel the need to leave dollar bills with their city name on for the landlord to paste up behind the bar. they were playing the soundtrack from the Blues Brothers when i wondered in there.

Oh that sucks! But you might be able to get some tickets from people just before the gig. Uh scalpers or whatever you call'em. :-) There are ALWAYS people trying to sell tickets in front of the AB

I won't be able to be in Brussels before 7 pm as I need to work until 6. But I'm sure Ned will be in Brussels before that time to meet you guys. :-)

I haven't been back to NL in 6 years! My Dutch is getting rusty. I only paid a few short visits to Belgium, although I lived fairly near it for a couple of years (Oosterhout). I have to translate Flemish to English on a fairly regular basis. Could I e-mail you, StanM and Nathalie, when I come across "Flemishisms" I don't understand?

I'll check in again later in the afternoon but I'm just going to chill here in Bruges for a while. If someone could re-sum up where and when we are meeting for a drink and food that would be great; a maplink would help. I do have a map of the area surrounding the Midi station for some blocks so if it's around there I'll be able to figure it out easily enough. Much thanks!

Hey, I think easiest is to meet at place Saint Gery, which is a little square with plenty of cafés.
Ned, if you are coming from Gare du Midi, take any tram (they are underground trams so you could confuse them for metros) and stop at Bourse. Once out of the station, locate a big green Irish pub and take the street adjacent to it. Walk 15 meters and you'll hit the square. It's really easy

Yeah, I have to pick up Alex first so let's say 7:15 to be on the safe side. This square is a 2 minutes walk to the MIA venue so that'll leave us some time. According to schedule, MIA takes the stage at 9:30

If you like Thai or Vietnamese food, I highly recommend trying to get a table at 'Lune de Miel', 15 Rue Jules van Praet / Jules van Praetstraat 15. That street is one of the small streets that connects the Bourse with Place St Gery, where you're meeting up.

I did not try them all, sorry (and there may be some new ones opened since I left!) but Lune de Miel is well regarded by many.

But hey, the eating in BXL is generally good. If you avoid:
(a) restaurants where a waiter stands outside trying to drag customers in; and
(b) restaurants with pictures of the food on the menu displayed in the window
then you'll probably do alright. ;-)
