une 10, 2005 - Two Hollywood studios are joining forces with Microsoft to bring Halo to the big screen. Today's Hollywood Reporter broke the news claiming that 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures are in negotiations to presumably split the production costs and divide the distribution rights for a flick based on the smash hit videogame franchise. Universal would release the movie in North America and Fox would handle overseas distribution.
Word of the deal comes just a few days after the script was delivered to studios by messengers dressed as Master Chief. Microsoft had developed the project in-house, hiring 28 Days Later screenwriter Alex Garland to pen the script. They were originally asking for $10 million up-front and a percentage of the film's gross, but that deal was reportedly too much for the studios to stomach. No details on the new deal have been announced. Part of the original deal that may have remained intact is an agreement that the studio adhere to strict guidelines that have been set by the developers.
No directors have been linked to the project since the initial rumored involvement (or disinterest) of filmmaker Ridley Scott. Scott was said to have been approached with the idea of a Halo movie and upon further review said that he "didn't see a world for a story." But this was before Halo 2 was released and made oodles of money (and well before Garland's script was written), so it's possible Mr. Scott has adjusted his perspective. June 13, 2005 - Fans who have enjoyed the long, successful run of The Simpsons might be happy to know that creator Matt Groening is putting the same writing talent used on the series to work on the Simpsons feature film.
After voice actress Nancy Cartwright broke the news that a movie was under way, E! Online received confirmation from studio spokeswoman Antonia Coffman.
"They are working on hammering out a script, but there's no title or production date or release date. We always wanted the show to end first but it just keeps going. Now they've worked out a team to simultaneously do [both the film and show]."
There appears to be no rush at this point, but if a relaxed schedule lets the producers keep the same talented people working on both the film and the series, Simpsons lovers can't ask for much more.
Details for the film's production still remain to be worked out. Groening and company might stick with Film Roman, which does the animation for the series, or they might bring on another company to animate the Simpsons movie.
Even if it takes a year or two, the film will almost certainly open before the series ends its run. The Simpsons is currently starting its 17th season on Fox this fall, and fulfilling its current contract would mean staying on the air for at least two more seasons afterward.

Totally. Master Chief should be voiced by someone famous, mebbe (or whoever did his voice originally) and then have the REAL star playing a normal ground troop who bears witness. Or something.

Oh so we did have a Halo adaptation thread of sorts. Anyway the first season of the show the other year was kind of a quiet favorite of mine -- it wasn't truly great, sure, but it had a very spare, chilly vibe I kinda appreciated a lot, barely any game-style POV moments, exhibiting a lot of patient buildup. Second season starts today with two episodes, just finished 'em. I continue to like it in general, you can (understandably, given where it's going to go) feel the tension start to ratchet up as things get messier.

Just watched the first season this week and started s2. I gather they have someone different running things, but it’s yet to be seen how much the tone really shifts? Definitely a different approach so far.

On ep 6 of the second season. Even knowing it’s been cancelled, it has an overconfident and leisurely vibe I’ve seen leading to other cancelled shows. Seems like there should be a guaranteed following season if you’re going to pace it slowly, that is, the delay getting to the Halo itself. More Cortana, more Arbiter, more armored scenes. Less redundant fight scenes, less Ackerson smirking aristocratically. This does make want to replay Reach, though.
