NME reads ILE

Has this been mentioned yet? In this weeks NME, in the 'The Good, The Bad and The Totally Ubiquitous' section (a two page spread with the faces of people who have been in the news, or merely existed, in 2001), there is evidence of ILx speek [finally] creeping into the NME.
In the Jamie Oliver 'box' (bottom right hand corner) it reads thus:

'Name Jamie Oliver
Occupation: Celebrity Chef
Reason: You sold your granny, your food is hard to cook, you are a twunt'

TWUNT!? Where did they get that from, then? And how long before they adopt other this site's other silly, nonsense words like 'Cockfarmer', 'RoxOr', 'Ned Ragget', and the like, hmm?

Haha! They will do anything to sell a few more copies!

james, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(to be fair NONE of those words was invented here)

p.s. if you're reading this, NME: Starsailor and The Strokes = Rubbish.
Speaking of which, where were Starsailor in your 2001 Review of the Year feature? Especially the opening article where you say how boring 'bloke rock' was, citing The Verve, Travis, Coldplay and, er, Shack, and thank God, then, for The Strokes "reviving" music. WHAT ABOUT STARSAILOR??? Y'know, the band you didn't fucking shut up about all fucking year, saying how they were the great, white hope for British music and all that crap that your readers had to put up with? Are you now trying to wash your hands of them, now you've come over all 'Let's ROCK!' Just pretend they never happened, eh? You twunts.

DavidM, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Washing hands of Starsailor = putting them in top 10 albums of year.

For goodness sake its only the NME, it's not as if it matters.

Ned Ragget

If they adopt that one I'll have a huge problem. Because it's spelled RAGGETT. That's TWO t's at the end, David M, TWO! ;-)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Twunt is also featured on Popbitch. So your secret is safe...

I invented a new word hybrid on Saturday: DRAMNESIA. Alcohol-assisted memory loss.

NME CALLS ROLLING STONE "TART"

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like the idea of them scanning the parts of the media that are rendering them irrelevant and picking up words from there.

Robin Carmody, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not only is ILE-speak sneaking into NME but also ILE-ers (turn to page 12, I'm one of the London Human League fans!)
