Ned in Amsterdam -- FAPs/shows/parties/whatever July 15th through 17th

And now the fourth part. So I'll be staying with my friend Ben, who is wrapping up his MA degree in media studies there -- in fact the day I arrive is the day he turns in his thesis! So celebratory actions for that evening are already part of the plan and all are welcome, I'm sure, but I'm turning over all planning to him there.

For the 16th, though, all is so far open and all suggestions are encouraged. Also, who's around there exactly? I know there's Stevo in Leiden while Job and Omar are in Amsterdam itself (I gather), but beyond that?

Thoughts, suggestions, etc.

considering yer church love, i imagine that a visit to the melkweg is on yer itinerary?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Hoho. (Might be, though.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

Ned, if Omar/Job don't email you, you can visit the Subjectivisten board and post the same thread there. :-)

The Melkweg is nice although I didn't get to see much of it. Don't forget to visit the beautiful Tuschinskitheater.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

I know, Nath! But do they allow English language threads there? ;-) However, I will post a link to this thread, as that is a good tip!

you might want to check this out: http://www.5daysoff.nl/

willem (willem), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Hm, I figured MIA was going to be playing Amsterdam after Brussels! Some good acts there, perhaps I am indeed seeing the Melkweg and Paradiso after all. ;-) Thanks!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

I know some people who work at the organization of 5DaysOff. It's a really great festival. I met my husband at the Belgian equivalent! In Belgium it actually lasts 10 days. I was a wreck after it.

Ned, you're probably right, better to email them directly. :-)

Holland awaits!

Well I'll be certainly up for buying you a drink Ned. I'm in touch with Omar so I'll see if he has any suggestions. Amsterdam is usually not short of options. I guess it depends on what's available, how many people + what you fancy doing yourself.

'5 days off' might be fun:

De Melkweg has:
Dilinja & Lemon D / Pete Philly & Perquisite / dj Lovesupreme / L-Dopa / Dreazz vs. Pamb / Tarantula (vj)
Noise Cabin (O.Z.): M.I.A. (live) / Kano (live) / Roll Deep (live) / Elephant Power / Gomes & Vin-E

Whilst Paradiso has Fischerspooner, + Tiefschwarz (yowsa!)

Kano (live) / Roll Deep (live)

Woha! I'm gonna have to check the Belgian 10DO now.

Be sure to take lots of pics! I want to see how coolio Stevo and Omar look like. :-)

Prepare to be seriously disappointed then;-) Not in cousin Omar with his flowing locks, hipster clothes, Spanish good looks and intellectual air. I, however, look a bit like Keith Allen’s uglier brother, or so I'm told.

stevo (stevo), Thursday, 16 June 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

I can combine the flowing locks with the gurning looks then. Or, um, something.

I suspect Ben would be up for some if not all of this, to be sure! Let me consult and we will cook up some ideas.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

i'm there, hit me on my cell!

but mail me first!

Hahaha, do i know this guy?

So yeah Ned, we're on then...

Omar (Omar), Monday, 20 June 2005 06:25 (twenty years ago)

Roxor!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

As you can see, there's plenty to do. You can stay at my place, if you like. Looking forward to meeting the man, the legend!

JoB (JoB), Monday, 20 June 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

:-D

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 June 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Anyway, cause Saturday is getting up close here. Any thoughts for the day/afternoon/evening?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 10 July 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

Ned, I know Omar is keen on Michael Mayer Sunday evening, I'm keen on Miss Kittin(ha!) + the Hacker/ Vitalic Saturday evening, but more to the point what do you want to do?

A quiet beer/coffee somewhere, a boat trip around the canals, a visit to the 'Banana Bar' ;-) Whatever, you're the honoured guest.

stevo (stevo), Sunday, 10 July 2005 08:42 (twenty years ago)

Choices, choices. ;-) Part of it might all depend on whatever ruin happens on Friday night with my friend Ben.

I won't be around Sunday evening so I must miss that, but Saturday evening's shows sound good, potentially. Some combination of quiet beer/coffee and wandering about would probably suit me best though Colette was recommending a glass-bottom boat canal trip. So that could be fun! I'd say for now just block out the afternoon for general stuffage -- I've heard that apparently the Indonesian cuisine in Amsterdam is quite good, so if someone could confirm/deny? That might make for a fun evening meal!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 10 July 2005 08:51 (twenty years ago)

The Indonesian cuisine in the Netherlands is generally excellent, but not being an A'damer I couldn't recommend any local restaurants. Job? Omar? I'll look into it.

The Jordaan neighbourhood would be my prefered location for a stroll
but whereabouts will you be staying Ned? Perhaps we should just arrange a meet-up in a café in the afternoon somewhere convenient and take it from there?

stevo (stevo), Sunday, 10 July 2005 09:18 (twenty years ago)

Could be good! I'm not sure where again I'm staying but Ben's been in Amsterdam for a year now so doubtless wherever the meet-up begins is he'll know the quickest way there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 10 July 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

Quick bump -- Stevo, can you send me your best phone number so I have it to hand, if you don't mind being the main contact for the ILX contingent? Everyone else, looking forward to Saturday! My vague fun plan -- meet somewhere for a light lunch early afternoon, touring/wandering for the afternoon as all suggestions are made and as whim seizes me, good Indonesian dinner somewhere, then perhaps the Vitalic and all that. Sound good?

Ned logged out (stevie nixed), Thursday, 14 July 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

Ned, sounds great. My telephone number on the way, let's fix a time, place etc.

My suggestion:

Early afternoon = 2pm?
Place = the monument in the Dam square itself is v. central + easy to find.

stevo (stevo), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

Sounds great -- let's do that and I'll see everyone on Saturday. Stevo, I'll e-mail you my friend Ben's nuber tomorrow as I can, so you can get a hold of me more directly on the day if something changes. Otherwise I will check in on line tomorrow and Sat. morning as I can.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 July 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

Okay, am here and loving it. Very peaceful at friend Ben's place. Tonight will be low key, so tomorrow can be good fun. :-) See everyone at 2 pm at stated locale!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 15 July 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

SMOKE WEED

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Friday, 15 July 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

That's already been implicitly offered.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 15 July 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

Am currently about to eat Indonesian food goodness with Ben and Stevo. Very good day. Hope all are well.

The man, the legend.

His mate, Ben.

Hope you enjoyed yesterday Ned, it was fun. For one day you managed to get a fair amount crammed in for one day. I particularly appreciated being able to talk with you how Liz's death had deeply affected us both.

Shame that Tiefschwarz started so late, they were excellent + I think you would have enjoyed it. Despite tired legs from wandering around all day I couldn't help but dance. I managed to get €20 for the tickets so I'll try paypal (the same kuci.org email adress ?). Here's hoping you have a relaxing restful time in Italy. Like I said you're more than welcome to stay in Leiden next time you're over.
