Croutons for salad, and oyster crackers for soup.

croutons for meh, oyster crackers for ANYTIME

You don't get to pick both, you have to pick one!

andy, your generally impeccable instincts have led you astray for once. Just as the tiger shuns to attack the elephant, knowing it is overmatched, even so must the oyster cracker slink away whenever the crouton appears on the scene. This is no contest, it is a travesty.

Asking me to pick between oyster crackers or croutons is like asking me to pick favorites between my children.

But, ummm, croutons. Oyster crackers make better regular snacking though.

I love them both, but definitely eat more croutons. For snacking, I'd just get a stack of saltines instead of oyster crackers.

I just rediscovered the joys of oyster crackers... they're not just for chowder anymore. I put them on chili last week, and they're... well, buoyant. They stay afloat, preserving their crispy report. The crouton is like an old, dirty sponge (made out of STALE bread, no less) that becomes soft as it absorbs the oil. The oyster cracker is so much more refined, so delicate... and not sprinkled with fake 'herbs.'

But crouton is both french and a kind of food, therefore superior to anything called a "cracker". repeat after me:

"Crouton, cracker, crouton, cracker."

There, you see. It is self-evident.

Wasn't there a Cosby Show episode where Kenny (aka "Bud") pronounced croutons "KROW-tons"? Am I imagining this?

Croutons are good, but they kind of bug me. I've never really felt the need for them in things like salads -- I feel like they defeat the purpose of a salad, maybe.

fifteen years pass...

croutons slightly over oyster crackers, but ask on a Tuesday and it might be reversed

Croutons scrape my gums painfully--I have tooth and gum problems.

re: croutons are we talking small yellow coloured bits of rock that you sometimes find in unfortunate salads or crispy, chewy, and deliciously greasy fried bread that takes soup to another level? also wtf is an oyster cracker.
