What would you say are the main influences on the vernacular and non-standard English you use?

Ah yes, Stanley Baxter, another Glaswegian who, like myself, got the hell out of the place as early as possible.

At my school the most vocal (and therefore by extension "coolest") students tended to be the West-Indian lads, and thus I still gah "Nah. Nah. Nah." punctuated with staccato head shakes when disagreeing with something.

Also, since moving to Yorkshire, I've started prefacing conversations with "Now then", although that may just be a subconcious tribute to Brian Clough.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 16 June 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

Whereas "Now then, now then" would be a subconcious tribute to Jimmy Saville

I favor archaic slang over contemporary for all occasions. Pre-WWII, if at all possible.

The source of A LOT of current hip-hop slang is E-40, he really doesn't get enough credit. I try and speak like him.

Parody and/or meta-referencing, as odd as that sounds.
