Chris Pirillo, Pimp This Forum!

In geek world, he's a celebrity

Mention Chris Pirillo on your blog or Web site and, soon enough, he'll show up with a comment.

This happens so often that bloggers call it "The Pirillo Effect." Pirillo, it seems, is always online, checking for his name and ready to jump into the conversation.

donut e-goo (donut), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Chris Pirillo, you may find it disturbing to know that you have heavy competition here.

donut e-goo (donut), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Pirillo describes himself as a geek, and, OK, there's some geekiness, what with the framed eyeglasses, the grin that borders on goofy and the pin on his shirt that says "RSS" in large white letters. RSS, if you didn't know, is a format used to distribute online content.

But Pirillo isn't short on personality either, and, as he's fond of saying, personality sells. Especially when it comes to something as intimidating as technology.

"I just get into it," he said. "It can be very infectious when it's in an environment in which it's enabled to be infectious."

And Pirillo has done well at finding environments that suit his personality. On his radio show, called "The Chris Pirillo Show," he has described a new wireless mouse as working "slicker than snot" and Sony's PSP portable game player as "just an amazing, amazing system" that "melted in your mouth." He likes to use the word "kludge to describe clumsy technology.

Noted.

Tarantula vs. Chris Pirillo

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Reading that hurt my head so I stopped.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

I don't think he was supposed to eat the PSP.

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

That poor tarantula is going to get melted by Chris Pirillo's creepy saliva acid.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

"KLUDGE!"

Is that pronounced "klooj"? or "kludge"? Chris Pirillo would know!

I love the "okay, there is some geekiness" comment. SOME?!?! Good lord this guy sounds like the freakin' poster child for dorks.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

A three-headed tarantula!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I wish someone had warned me that his sidebar picture was a gigantic Joker head suspended over a shadowy Pirillo-crotch.

Hahahaha.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

This guy is really really good at describing things, huh.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

What does Chris Pirillo think of men who trim their public hair: insecure or thoughtful?

donut e-goo (donut), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

He thinks it's pretty kludge obv.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

This is the thread where I say #6541541541541 -- hath not a Pirillo a shadowy crotch?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

He likes to use the word "kludge to describe clumsy technology.

That's more than one word.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Bad unclosed quote! No biscuit!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Kludge! What a weird word! (I realize the word's only been around for over two decades at least, but still! Woah!)

Don't speek too soon. I'm SURE he's using a much faster search engine than google, which takes a WHOLE week or so to sniff the entire web-iverse.

(xpost DB YOU STOP THAT RIGHT NOW)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

(xpost)NORMALLY, but this is Chris Pirillo we are talking about! He has powers far beyond mere mortals!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Well, if Chris Pirillo is the EXTREME geek that he is, he should be able to answer in -5 minutes, don'tcha think?

donut e-goo (donut), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

I would suggest an alternate take on that Tony Christie "Amarillo" song that was a hit again in the UK earlier this year but even I'm not that insane. Yet.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Donut, isn't that just Tarantula vs., part 2?

Alternately, it could be the next Beauty and the Geek, since Jon is so beautiful.

I take it you mean this guy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Rich Johnston writes the industry's leading gossip column, Lying In The Gutters. Debased and debauched, it cleans the cat litter of comics, while having a good sniff at the same time.

Good LORD.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Hahahaha! Actually he does!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

They say that behind every good geek, there's a great woman. In today's case, that's absolutely true. Kim Peterson wrote a story about me that ran in the front of today's Seattle Times Business section... and the photo was quite telling. Ignore the moron in front. Pay attention to the upper and lower lefthand corners. That's Ponzi's foot; she's in the background, working feverishly on Gnomedex 5.0. Art imitates life! She's my personal and professional CEO - literally. I can be a little energetic at times, so her importance in our affairs is sometimes downplayed (whether intentionally or otherwise). She be my partner, in every sense of the word. She's the yin to my yang (or, yang to my yin?).

Ponzi?

Look, folks - I'm enjoying Beauty and the Geek (just like the rest of you), but I am not like Richard in any way. Two people have made this innocent juxtaposition, but it's just flat-out wrong. He's the lanky guy who has no social skills. First, I'm not lanky - I was husky in junior high. And while I enjoy Richard's over-the-top mannerisms, I have a completely different style. Richard has never kissed a girl, and I nailed my first smooch in the second grade. My ears also don't stick out half as far. I may be a geek, but I guess I'm not a total geek. The guys on this show are closer to nerds, IMHO. And these beauties are truly beauties, but I've known much better beauties who also happen to have brains (present company included). Beauty and the Geek hits too close to home.

donut e-goo (donut), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

Wait, wait, he's 'not like Richard' but it still 'hits too close to home.'
