The Interceptor

Helicopters everywhere. A villanious Celtic free spirit vs. two sporty Gary Davies-listening yuppies being pursued across country. His grin when he knew he'd zapped the bastards. The Tractor Ambush. The Interceptor desperately trying to get between the contestants on a boat on the Norfolk Broads and ending up getting arrested by the river police. Ah, the thrill of the chase.

"I like it!"

Anyway, it's back on Challenge TV.

So: one of the greatest game shows ever and a victim of ITV's dull hegemony (my own opinion) or over-conceptual late 80s drivel?

I don't remember this show at all. I really must watch Challenge TV more.

Game shows with plots = dud, they never work. cf Ice Warriors, Scavenger.

Dumb gameshows without plots (Gladiators, Big Brother) alwys work. GO figure? Its probably a willing suspension of disbelief thing. Gen public rubbish at acting scared of man in trenchcoat and black helicopter. Key point, don't pis about with a decent format (Treasure Hunt).

Challenge is the most scarily addictive channel extant, even when it shows what can only be described as "shit": I warn you, Dastoor ...

Treasure Hunt was GRATE, and remarkably quotable, but seven series were about as much as you could do. Interceptor could have run as long and been as successful: the mistake was putting it in the post- Corrie Wednesday night ITV braindead zone, rather than Thursday nights on C4 where it would have found its market.
