Blah blah, yeah, yeah, some of you know all about my employment woes and all that. I've been sacked more times than most of you hAVE been employed, blah blah etc.

Anyway, I've been headhunted.

For a role that looks absolutely amazing.Yeah, I know I said that last time, but this time it is a company that is well aware of my unconventiality/"eccentricity" (their words, not mine) and is willing to work with me to let me build the Best. Thing. Ever. in terms of databases and banking and all that shit. (yeah, I'm drunk, my agent bought me too many drinks but I owe her a case of Kerystal yah)

SO! Come drink with me. Coz this is the end of me goofing around on ILX.

Frioday night. Club Seal/Club Hedon/Bar AcaDEmy, Islington all that crap. I plan to drink and dance like I never have and never will again. Oh yeah.

Congrats, Kate! It's your soulmate in a job. :-D

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

hurrah kate!

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

AWESOME!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Yay! Seriously, tomorrow night looks like its going to be a bit of a stormer, for a variety of reasons. And I am quite excited myself, having decided to start jobhunting again as of Monday - there's no reason to feel trapped in here when I'm quite patently not.

Its a friend's birthday tomorrow so I won't be around before 11ish, but the same situation applies with regard to guestlists etc. Charlie, do you promise to actually stick around for a bit afterwards?

And its a week til Glasto :)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Rah the wondrous Kate! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

Maybe I might not be unemployable after all. They know all the fine print and all the problems, and are still willing to put up with me if I can do what I say I can do (i.e. all the stuff I've done in previous jobs I've liked.)

x-post, Matt - I have a GOOD agent. She doesn't just do IT things. Bloody good headhunter.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

yay good work kate, congrats.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

It's free when it's early when the bands are on, right? Please tell me that it is. I haven't started raking in the BIG BUCXKS!!! yet. Next month.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

i need to get headhunted

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

It used to happen to my dad all the time. I remember my mum on the phone to them. Not the first time it's ever happened to me, but the first time it;'s been GOOD.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations!

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

I'm a combination of excited and SCARED. I know I can do it, but you know... can I DO it?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

Oh that's fantastic. Please let us know how it goes?

isadora (isadora), Thursday, 16 June 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

She can't! 'Cos this is the end of her goofing around on ILX!

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 16 June 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

I'll miss you other Kate. But I'm glad something is going right for you.

You fondle my trigger then you blame my gun / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 16 June 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

yesterday my agent said "i have a job that would be PERFECT for you! it's with a publishing company and you'd get to use photoshop and indesign." but she didn't tell me what the company was. i was all excited and ready to say goodbye to being broke and today she called back and told me it was a company i'd already interviewed with and that they'd rejected me.

the depression's too much to bear, so i've been staying in bed all day and popping vicodin. sigh.

metal detective (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 16 June 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if I could get an agent to get me a job. Probably not. Anyway congratulations Kate!

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 16 June 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

I was trying to tempt her back with a willing audience. Maybe she could come back in a serious no-nonsense fashion from time to time.

isadora (isadora), Friday, 17 June 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

Congrats Kate :)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 17 June 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm somewhat more sober now, and rational, and having to apologise to everyone for drunk emails sent last night etc. etc.

But wow, yeah. It's a really full-on Proper Job. With a salary I can't quite get my head around. (What am I going to do with all that money? It's more money than I can reasonably spend, even if I replaced all my pedals. I'm going to have to start saving it. And maybe buy a house.)

But I'm going to be working the crazy kind of hours that The Spy and Matt DC work. But yeah, it's enough money and enough FREEDOM that I could actually see myself doing it, and enjoying it. No more ILX, but I'm hoping that the job will be interesting and challenging enough that I won't really feel the need to goof off - let alone have time.

And it's right opposite the Freemasons Hall. Hah!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

What kind of agents do all you people with agents have?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 17 June 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

A recruitment agent. Also doubles as a life skillz coach, but they thought I didn't need that. ;-) Bwah hah hah hah hah.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 10:42 (twenty years ago)

w00t!

congrats.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 17 June 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

Envy. I need to get headhunted.

Because it's a congratulatory affair, I'd like to come along, but I may have to go to a BBQ first or instead. I'm mostly free this weekend and beyond (as ever), K.

Negativa, True Believer (Sheryl Crow in a Britney costume) (Barima), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Yeah! Go Kate!

robster (robster), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

Oh man, I hope this works out. I really do. I'm excited as all heck. I just hope that it *is* what it says on the tin this time.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

I want to come out, but have to spend some time with boyfriend after unseemly emotional torture on Tuesday. (All is fine, but I'd like to see him physically and not just talk over the phone and, no, bringing him to Seal is not an option.)

Anna (Anna), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

Grebt news this is, so grebt it's making Alex smile.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

Bah.

Will still see you for rehearsal next week, though, right babes?

x-post ha ha! Yay! Oh yeah and noodles, you will be happy to hear that I'll be back on SQL SERVER!!! MOFO!!! No more bloody ACT. I be happy.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

Yup. Did I not email you? I am loosing it. I cannot remember who I have sent messages to or not. Hurrah, anyway.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

I can't remember either. I've been SOOOO stressed over this job thing. Three days of interviews, one was for two and a half hours!

I hope I have the time to play gigs and stuff now... eep!

Did we decide where the rehearsal would be? I'm assuming Homotown but I think Frances is at Sonar at the mo.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

I cannot remember who I have sent messages to or not.

(cough)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

Well, that answers one then (sorry x)

Anna (Anna), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

The best thing about this job is that I am going to get to play around with DATA CUBES!!!

This is to conventional databases and financial modelling what EINSTEINIAN RELATIVISTIC SPACE-TIME is to the Newtonian World.

I am *SO* all over this. My data is going to go all Shimura Curved, I know it. Mwah hah hah hah hah.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

MULTI DIMENSIONAL OLAP DATA HYPER-CUBES!!! THis is the COOLEST! THING! EVER!!!

I am going to love my job. I can just tell.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

"Welcome to your orientation. If you check the underside of your seat, you will find that we have taped a dose of acid there. Please consume this before continuing."

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

Well, not quite... but it *is* "think different".

But I think that this means that it's a good company/person match, because they were sick of being sent boring dull DB admins who just want to make reports and tend the data. While with me, they started talking about DataCubes and I started bouncing up and down in my seat.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Rock on girl! This is v. good news and I hope it will be smashing and fun. However, don't forget us.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

Well, I will always come back for the rolling walking. But please someone make sure to keep me abreast of FAPtivity. Not that I will be able to go to them any more. But if it's near the Freemason's hall, I can nip out for a wee dram!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

Good stuff! I think I've argued with you a total of like once, but usually when I think of kate I think "hey, that bitch is solid". Godspeed on yr new gig and hopefully we can party someday.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

That's wonderful news Kate, though you'll be missed here... Can't you post from home?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Maybe I will have to bite the bullet and get broadband at home... if I'm ever there once I start this job!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Now I'm imagining Kate's new job to be that of the controller off last week's Doctor Who.

Sorry if it seems like I'm not taking your exciting news very seriously. It's great!

xpost - I'd rather have happy Kate who sometimes turns up at FAPs than unhappy Kate on ILX. Check how your changed life is, then determine if you have enough time for ILX. (AKA what I wish I'd done three months ago).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

Yes, that is *exactly* what I'm hoping my new job will be. Can I get a datajack infogina to send the download stream of info STRAIGHT TO MY HEAD please?

I will wait and see what happens, but my resolution is that these people have shown an immense amount of trust and respect and that they believe in me, and are counting on me, and I am going to REPAY that trust by doing the best of all possible jobs. And that means throwing myself into the job 110%, not mucking about on ILX on their time.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Whens the start date?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

so exactly how close will you be working to me? i can almost touch the freemasons if i lean out of the window (and had 10 foot arms). i can even see what is happening ON THEIR ROOF!

i'm assuming that the new branch of subway doesn't have 5D data cubes ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

How did I miss this *punches self in head*. Congratulations lovely, I'm so glad all is sorting itself out for you! Would love to pop along tonight as I think drunken dancing could be the exact thing I need at the moment. Just a £38 travel bill standing between me & London, damit! have a fabulous time! xoxoxoxoxoxox

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Heheh, this is all sounding very well. By the time I'm there it will nothing but merriment!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations! I also work in the wondrous world of OLAP data cubes, but I certainly don't get paid a ridiculous salary to do it :P

Where do I get one of these agents?

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

Congrats Kate - this is wonderful news. Don't get so lost in multidimensional database-world that you don't have time for la musique, though. And don't forget you're playing the B&G on Sept 3!!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Anyone who is coming tonight please txt me ok thx bye.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 June 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

kate i am SO BLUDDY CHUFFED for you!! bring it on... it's the beginning of the future. i will see you later. bruv stevie and me are having picnic in garden in disgustingly beautiful sunshine if you want to drop by here on the way. well strictly it's further i guess, but 'tis but a bus ride from the angel.

matt i am coming but i don't have yr text number. my bruv is coming too.

emsk, Friday, 17 June 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

congrats!

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 18 June 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations, Kate. Great news -- good to hear it.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 18 June 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

Yay! Yay!

I was all a bit out of sorts on Friday night (not helped by freaking ridiculous assholes who tried to pick a fight with me. No, really. I know that I can be aggressive when drunk, but I wasn't really drunk and my friends could not believe it was all going on.) But yeah.

I'm excited about the new job, really, underneath this weird sense of almost... grief. Like I'm saying goodbye to an old life. Like a snake shedding its skin or a catapillar coming out of a coccoon and I'm not even sure what kind of animal I am underneath.

Carsmile, I work on the opposite side of Great Queen Street to the Freemasons. Closer to the EEZOHAD but I think the masons will protect me. I hope. Does this mean we are going to have to have a FREEMASONS ARMS FAP?!?!?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Sunday, 19 June 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, in case anyone cares, I'm not Plugging My Blog, but if you want to keep up with me while I'm in work hell, I'll probably be updating my Blog a lot more frequently than I'll be posting to ILX.

here:

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Sunday, 19 June 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

nice one, dear. hooray for jobs people actually want!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Sunday, 19 June 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

I am sorrowed I did not drink with yer this weekend but that will be remedied soon enough. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 19 June 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

kick ass kate

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 19 June 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Today I'm utterly paralysed by fear and anxiety and totally freaking out. :-(

Less than one day and counting.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Aww darl, try to calm yourself down. This job will be totally different to your last one as this new company know everything about you. *hugs*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

Well... not *everything*. But they will shortly. I had to fill out a medical declaration which asked "are you on any medication?" etc. etc. so I decided that was as good a time to let them know about the manic depression thing as ever.

They asked me in my application if I had a disability. I just don't consider it a disability.

Argh. I'm going to have my anger managed in an hour, I've certainly got a lot to be discussing. All this anxiety, for a start, which makes it very hard to hold one's rag.

I just have to keep thinking about what I can *get* out of it. Not just the Data Hypercubes, but they money, too. Enough money to have a weekendlong Cambridge FAP!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

good luck kate! that company is very lucky to gain such an intelligent individual as yourself, i will visit yer blog if only for future dates on Shimura Curve activity!

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

Enough money to have a weekendlong Cambridge FAP!
Ooh yay!! Maybe you could combine it with a SC gig too!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for the hug, BTW, Pink! Right back atcha! Good thing I was still sitting in the same desk in the web cafe, or some random stranger would have been very surprised by the arms popping out of the monitor!!! ;-)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

I do hope it all turns out great, Kate. The bestest of luck to you.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

haha! :-)
x-post

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)
