Boston beating Boulder? You have no idea how much I doubt the accuracy of those statistics. I actually kinda think Boulder has quite reasonably decided that they'd rather have the kids all stoned than all drunk -- underage drinking is like some kind of secret-agent challenge, whereas getting drugs is as easy as walking around a little.

(It'd probably be a nicer city if they cracked down on the cheap-hippie-acid thing, too -- it's kind of annoying to be constantly stepping over zoned-out kids sitting in doorways learning to play the digeridoo -- but whatever.)

Boulder isn't awful! It has a couple kinda visibly annoying elements, yes. Zoned-out hippies are kind of a weird public fixture, but on the plus side, they sell lots of drugs and most of them are just traveling through. The serious party-type Greek element is a little out-of-control, too, but at least it's easy to avoid. But so around that you've got a sizable number of just cool people, and a pretty beautiful city to walk around in, and the laid-back feel of a town you can easily wrap your head around -- it's a pleasant place.

I used to spend four days a year in boulder for business, and although I loved being out west, the crazy nexus of hippies/yuppies/fratboys always drove me a little nuts. However I was drunk for a lot of it so perhaps I am part of the problem.
