With all the geeky fun to be had with the extended Google archive of usenet they have a page of links to historically interesting threads. How about some ile-type threads of some historical interest. oh bollocks, post any old thread.

we can have somethin like "I WUV 1997" the usenet version of *those* shows that we love to hate.

Here's when Jyoti Mishra (White Town dude) got to number one with Your Woman. It made my week i can tell you.

This shit's great. I can selectively Google alt.music.alternative to find embarrassing stuff.

DG, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And who can forget these classic alt.music.alernative thread favorites?

Brian MacDonald, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ah, the memories of Geir Hongro and Tom Trauth ...

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw Brian, I'm going to have to move away and change my identity now.

Nicole, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and Sally Kenwaite ... let's not forget Sally Kenwaite!

I stumbled upon an entertaining flame war between Glenn McDonald and JD Considine from a few yrs back. 'Course, you old school folks can p'bly quote it from memrey.

Andy K., Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't recall it, but then I tend to block Ronald's scribblings from my memory.

Nicole, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just wasted a few hours re-reading some ancient flamewars. God, ama was the shit in its day!

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and few things on this earth are funnier than reading Geir Hongro's opinions about Frank Zappa ... almost approaches Groucho Marx or a young Eddie Murphy!

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, 1999, that's nothing. Does anyone remember bit.listserv.allmusic? I used to read that one in the early 90s.

Kerry, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I missed the golden era of ama, sigh. It seems my old newsreader expired all the posts I told it not too, as well, so I can't jog my memory. More ukma nostalgia from a lurker (mostly), though: good copy | Why bow to the 10 weasel corporations who control the monopoly on watersports???

Ahhh. Lexical cohesion is the new glam rock.

(It is too difficult to fit URLs containing message-ids in these 70 character forms. I hope if we start paying Greenspun money they'll get wider. Even if it presumably is a form of the very usenet nostalgia that this thread is about.)

ARGH argh argh argh ARGH argh ARGH *to* not *too*. My excuse is that it was going to say "to, too" and then I thought that that was a bit clumsy and I took out the wrong one before sticking "as well" in. FOOL.

PLUS I just went to look at ukma again after a few months of not checking news and DAMMIT if the biggest cockfarmer I knew at university hasn't started posting. Now I'm in a bad mood. I'm quite tempted to restart the cockfarmer thread, except I might have to be nice to him next term if I go back (sigh sigh sigh) and I'm a wuss.

*calms down*

Rebecca, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I forgot there was once a thread detailing the trust about me.

Ally, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey I'd forgotten Slorta Vileblade. And also the 4 evil corporations man.

Rebecca - what d'you mean? Pasting them works fine - it doesn't matter if they wrap wround.

N., Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick: oh. I didn't know that. I assumed that letting them wrap would break them. Thus I went to great trouble to make them fit. Once again, I am a FOOL. Thanks for the correction, I'll be very glad of it next time round...
