This story straight from Malawi has the most detail. I think it was shot yesterday by rangers.

Rabid Skunk in Dundalk

Aimless (Aimless), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

When I was a kid in Humboldt, a guy soaking in his hot tub was bitten on the toe by a rabid fox. He got the shots, though.

My mom used to try to stop me from befriending wild animals by warning of the 13 shots in the stomach I'd need if I got rabies.

My father probably has a story about fighting and capturing this beast at the age of twelve.

Damn that is fucked up. And a warning for those of you eating lunch, there's a picture of a kid with like his face torn off or something on that link.

Not about rabies, but in the vein of "why no thread about this animal", check the two-headed kitten. Or has that been done?

Hunter (Hunter), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Three years ago I was running on Cape Cod in the next town over from that attack, and I encountered a coyote which tracked parallel to me through yards as it looked to move away. I was in the town next to that attack. Coyotes are not native to Cape Cod. When I told my family, who've been there for like 60 years, they did not believe me, caws theah ahh no koy-o-tees ahhn Cape Caaahd.

Hunter (Hunter), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

They need to wake up and smell the coyote.

Aimless (Aimless), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

Okay, okay, the hedgehog this is translated from Hungarian, but so check this:

"A family found a hedgehog in the inner-city area of Budapest (1st District, Castle Quarter). While playing with it, the four members of the family got beslavered by the hedgehog who then died. The dead animal was subjected to obligatory veterinarian examination abduction, and it proved to be rabid."

I'm not sure which is more unnerving, the kitten or that yellowed dagger of a fingernail at the end of that gnarled digit.

Hunter (Hunter), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

Coyotes are everywhere man. Including Manhattan

DAEREST V1CE MAGAZINE!!!!! (ex machina), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Two headed kitten never live more than a couple days.

I saw a coyote not far from Downtown Oakland, on the rail corridor... but that's not so absurd because there's grassy, oakey hills just a couple miles away.

andy --, Friday, 17 June 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Don't even talk to me about coyotes.
