Ok, the deal is next misummers day* Friday 24th June everyone gets their cameras out and records what they're doing, where they've been, who they're with. Glamorous, mundane, artistic, exotic, at work, at play all adding up to give a snapshot of Ilxor's lifes.

No rules other than they must be taken between midnight and midnight local time that day.

*Midwinters day for the sheepfuxors down south, I guess.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

Post them here folx.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Why misummers and not yours?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

...where's a hi-hat when I need one?

giboyeux (skowly), Friday, 17 June 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

This is a good idea. Better get one broadband, kids.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 17 June 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

This would be a perfect day for me to do a photo diary since it will be my first day outside of the U.S., ever, except I don't own a camera and likely won't have access to the internets.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 17 June 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

This is a great idea Billy. But I sold my camera yesterday :(

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 18 June 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

i thought the summer solstice was on tuesday?

jellybean (jellybean), Sunday, 19 June 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, solstice is on Tuesday but as far as I could find out midsummer day i.e longest day is 24th I wouldn't get too hung up on the title, it's just an excuse for ilxor's to take some snapshots.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 19 June 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

I'll do this for us winter solsticers, can someone confirm if you want to do tomorrow (tues) or the 24th tho?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 19 June 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

oh, im having my loft eviction party that day!

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 20 June 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

Perfect pix op then! :)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 20 June 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

The solstice (when the day is longest [in the Northern hemisphere]) is indeed tomorrow; I know it because it's my birthday. The official Midsummer's day, though, is Saturday (at least in Finland it is); I guess it's because people don't want to celebrate Midsummer mid-week (it's [besides New Year's and May Day] one of the main drinking holidays in here]).

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 20 June 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

I'd leave it at Friday as per thread title. Plus maybe a few ilxor's will be at Glasto that day.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 20 June 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

Oh really? Fantastic, I'd *love* to see some glasto on-the-go pics. Ive always wanted to go to glasto or reading.

This'll be fun. I hope many people give this a go, itll be like the "best photo you ever took" thread, which I love.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 20 June 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

Ah and on the day, can we start another thread titled something like "ILX Solstice photo diary results" so its not just summer ;P (its freezing here!)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 20 June 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

Or I could just change the thread title here.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

The actual solstice date moves around, cos of leap years and maths and things, but yeah, this year it's on the 21st...

"Midsummer" doesn't necessarily mean the actual solstice though, it's a more arbitrarily defined holiday really.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 20 June 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

This is a great idea Billy. But I sold my camera yesterday :(

where? how much did you get for it? i think you had the same one as me, and i'm vaguely considering getting rid of it...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 20 June 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

I'll do it, but remind me!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

toby. ebay. £170. was hoping for nearer 200 but couldn't wait any longer. looking forward to buying a new one in a month or two though, haha.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

The solstice (when the day is longest [in the Northern hemisphere]) is indeed tomorrow

And, of course, if anyone's paying attention, that would make today SUMMER'S EVE.

Hello and welcome to the shortest day of our year =) It was dark til 7.30 this morning. Geezum.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

I spent the whole of our longest day out in the sun! Here's sunrise (or pretty soon after it):

wow what a crazy tug of war battle

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

Was that Ruby Wax refereeing the tug of war?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Oh, OK, I looked at your pics as a slideshow and didn't look at the notes. In which case, fear my powers of celebrity observation, then laugh at my powers of actually looking at things properly.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

awesome, chicago people will be doing karaoke!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I wish flickr included phot descriptions in the slideshows. It was definitely a strange event to have randomly wandered into. That's what's ace about London though, these things happen.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 25 June 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

I had a vague feeling that I should've had my camera with me yesterday. I'm afraid all I have is a picture of the rain.
