Ate at just-reopened-tonight asian food place which is located immediately under my apt. building and which has been closed for 3 years. Had Thai barbeque, superb beef, salad which I wasn't expecting, and also a tasty milkshake. And the whole place was very swank looking, polite service, Stan Getz w Astrud on the stereo, etc. So doin GRATE because I'm happy to have a good new restaurant in town.

Actually, I also went out for dinner tonight. Had a much less pleasant experience though. I found a gooey dead housefly in my angelhair pasta. I threw down my utentils and did the mandatory visible recoil with remarkable calm, I must say. Then you've got to, you know, like 'break the news' to your poor waiter who's fault it clearly isn't. I'm too nice probably.

Overall, I'm good though, if a bit hungry now.

Kim, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I dunno. I wish like hell it would hurry up & be summer.

duane, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

"I'm ok , you're so -so. oooh oooo" Bowie As for me I am doing bad. My freinds left town and my girl is far away. And Boston closes at fucking midnight.

Mike Hanley, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Don't ask. I've had a bad cold all week and now I'm still coughing, sneezing and blowing out thick, viscous, bright yellow snot ALL. THE. TIME.Sniffffffff! Bleh! I'm staying in all weekend because of it.

Sorta boring evening, but my housemate Jason and I hung around a bit at a not-bad local coffeehouse and chatted with folks who know mutual friends and all. Currently at home with a beer and something to munch and killing a bit of time.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I did my 3 hour session at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center and then had a beer in the nieghborhood pub. I feel mellow

anthony, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Procrastinated all day, up till now.

Sterling Clover, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Fretting about exams and that I can't finish my project and that I made a calculation error on page one and have to recalculate a whole heap of stuff. I hate my degree but have no choice but to finish it. i think I may have fucked this year up.

Ed, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I'm okay, going to see Ginger Snaps later, how are you?

james e l, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I'm OKAY how are YOU thanks for asking thanks for asking...

(sorry)

I just wish I would stop bleeding already. How can I have any blood left at this point?

masonic boom, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Not good. I've just had my first cup of real coffee for months and I feel very waffy indeed. And I've just discovered that my yahoo account has been hacked, so if any of you got weird mail from me in the last few hours, it wasn't from me.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Bleeding? A natural occurrence I hope?

This morning, I'm off to do the makeup for a friend of mine who's getting married today. We never had a chance to do a test run tho, and the videographer will be there taping it all. No pressure. No pressure at all! heh.

I hope the bozo look is really chic right now...

Kim, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

i would just like to add that 'do you really like it' by dj pied piper is still the best record ever made.

Feel great, that nicely tired Saturday morning feeling which involves Guardian - reading, tea, waiting until what's a Civil Hour to ring friends, and watching dreck on television. Unfortunately the milk has turned to chunder and I'm having green tea instead of the milky. Last night, after sorting out an interview for this week (one I'm conducting) and organising a meeting (publisher lunch), I got taken to Mandalay (the cheap Burmese at the dodgy end of the Edgware Road, really amazing, everyone go) and finally saw Croupier. I LOVED that, really pacy, intricate, funny, misanthropic and made good use of a lot of actors who are usually in SHITE FILMS. About two months ago I lent my flat and roof to a photographer to shoot Clive Owen (he was pleasant with Gravitas Man qualities) and have been trying to see film ever since then. Then we had some drinks in a late bar by the cinema before going to It's On ('a great trashy club' said my friend, and he's right) and dancing until 3 to whatever Richard Fearless and Wiz could throw at us.

Urgh, I have to clean the flat. Urrrrrrrgh.

I'm now very worried about a friend of mine whose been climbing in the alps based in Chamonix. I've just read that two british climbers have been killed on the Cosmiques arete which is directly above Chamonix. There's not a lot I can do except hope that its not him. I felt a chill run down my spine when I read the report.

Ed, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I didn't know there was a dodgy end of the edgware road. I though it was universally so.

Ed, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I'm doing good ! It's the week-end, my girlfriend and I are on top of things as far as wedding + moving preparations go, so I can relax a little. I'm gonna go to the bank to deposit some early wedding presents and I'll mail some bill payments, then go to the record store without feeling too guilty about it 'cause I got a couple of unexpected checks this week :). Life is grand !

Patrick, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I feel even worse now. Caffeine come down is hitting me hard. I'm shaking like a very shaky thing.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Edgware road is 'dodgy' only above Westway, but full of gems like Mandalay and Regent Cafe, which is even more 'untouched' than decor of New Piccadilly, Denman St. W1.

suzy, Saturday, 14 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

bart - stop teasing yr sister. Richard - drink the coffee. Me - somewhere in between.

OK, I was gonna spend a day i. tidying my flat in case [?¿?] comes round to watch Bod and Buffy with me next week, ii. finally tying off the closing part of the 1876-1900 section of my book, in re Edison, Ford, Metropolis and minstrelism on cylinder and disc; iii. making a start on the 1901-1925 rewrite (= Lenin has sex with robots); iv. writing a CD review.

iv. Hasn't gone completely terribly.

"I dunno" (above) = what i say when someone says "how you doing" in real life. but it just occurred to me this is the internet not "real life" so if someone axe you how you doin' you might's well tell the truth. so - fuckin unhappy, as usual.

This weekend just keeps on getting better. Following exit from pub as detailed in Michael Portillo thread I am now within half an inch of finishing my bottle of Jura and listening to Come and Shellac. Life's grate, honestly.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Sunday, 15 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Depressed to be back home, actually. It'll pass pretty quickly.

Ally, Sunday, 15 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Today I saw some lions and tigers and bears (oh my)...not to mention giraffes, rhinos, and baboons. I also saw a Mennonite girl by the side of the road who appeared to be taking polaroid snaps of her electricity free farmhouse. We were driving pretty fast though, so I could be mistaken. I'm happy but getting a head cold. Does ten seem like an acceptable number of sick days to have accumulated so far this year? Malevolent Monday approacheth...
