They work. They don't make much money. So yes.

bnw, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They are employed by the borgeuois to control the proletriat , so no.

anthony, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They make more bloody money than me! I am not working class.

Emma, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They're members of the farming class here in Dublin. All the country cops get moved up here. They use Kerry rhyming slang.

I think ordinary policemen would be classed as a C2 - everyone of officer rank or above would be a C1 or B, and the bigwigs would be A. So no, broadly speaking.

what anthony said. "armed bodies of men used for the repression of one class by another, etc." = state. Cops = state.

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

CID = predominantly middle-class.

Trevor, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'd bet you all would be begging for the return of that repression if all the coppers went on summer vacation for a couple of months like you fookin students.

fritz, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

next time you get robbed try calling an alternative comedian. it just goes to show if you don't want to be beaten up you shouldn't be poor. i am not making any sense.

Apparently New York City cops ain't too smart. Whether or not there is a sociological basis for this is not conclusive. There's only so many inferences one can draw in the space of three minutes.

Trevor, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They come out of the working class. They have relatives who are working class. But, IME, the working class can't stand them.

Kerry, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hence the firefighters fighting with the cops in NYC. Go firemen!!

Kerry, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

IME, everybody except cops feels the same about cops - essentially: it's a dirty job but somebody has to do it, most people who would WANT to do it are a little cracked, some cops are heroes & some cops are gangsters.

fritz, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Are they members of the working class, or not? >BR>Who cares?

helen fordsdale, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They can sign passport photos. Hence they cannot be plebs.
