for which months of the year can you not immediately call to mind their respective numerological designations (1-12)?

June and July (6 and 7) get me sometimes. I think this is because I was out of school for the summer and not doing so much writing and homework and labeling things with dates.

in those crucial formative years

september and october.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

and very occasionally april and may.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

I can't not do any of them. I understand what it must be like (I sometimes have to think for a millisecond to remember 24-hour-clock versions of times between 8pm and midnight, and mentally recite parts of the alphabet) but month-numbers never make me pause.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

In kindergarten, my teacher posted on a bulletin board twelve chocolate birthday cakes arranged three across and four down. Since then, it doesn't take me even half a second to know what month was six or nine months ago or what month is six or nine months from now. I can tell you which months have thirty or thirty-one days without looking at my knuckles. I know which months don't have R's. I know that the first letters of July, August, September, October, and November spells out JASON. It's not that I just know this stuff. I mean, the shit is INGRAINED INTO MY BEING.

Miss Linda was a very effective teacher.

Just August.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

All of them. It's horrible.

Mickey (modestmickey), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

i'm good with january, february & december. probably november. after that, i always have to count. pathetic.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

kelsey let's start a support group.

Mickey (modestmickey), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes August/September. Dunno why.

I always have to mutter "30 days has september april june and november" to work the days out tho.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

i know them pretty well. i sometimes can't remember if may has 30 or 31 days, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

31. I'm much better with this since starting a job in which I have to input dates to get reports spewed out at me.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

September, October, November and December are the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th months in my head. LOOK AT THE NAMES. (And yes I do know about the historical calendar vagaries which created this illusion.)

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:45 (twenty years ago)

I don't have a problem with this, but for years our maths teacher insisted we write the date DD/MM/YY so it's been drilled into me. I have to say the rhyme to remember which ones have 30 or 31 days though.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

You say that as if it's the wrong way, Mädchen!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

It is the only way! (Apart from the thing with the knuckles but I never quite got that.)

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:31 (twenty years ago)

archel otm about the sep, oct, nov, dec old calendar mix up. i don't think this will ever leave me.

i also struggle with the june/july thing, i've put lots of orders through this week for july already.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh no, I meant DD/MM/YY. The rhyme is okay, but I'm never entirely sure, I always have to check it afterwards.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

I get days of the week muddled much more frequently than months. Until about an hour ago I thought it was Tuesday.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

you mean it isn't? fuuuck!

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

Maths: 22/06/05
All other subjects: Wednesday, 22nd June, 2005 (double underlined in red biro)
