My close showbiz pal, golf partner and erstwhile ILxoR, Stevie T, is celebrating his birthday tomorrow night (14th Dec) by singing songs not quite in his vocal range at the King of Corsica Karaoke in London's trendy Soho and he's asked me to invite any of you who might be around.

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Come and heckle the ancient deluded fule. It's on Berwick St, and he will be there from 7pm.

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Berwick St? Ghetto of the West?!!! I'll be there!

alix, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not only will I be there, but I wish this thread to be near the top of the new answers board, hooray! We may see Stevie T pulling his Morrissey face!

Tim, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I must have a beer tonight or I will die. I'll be there.

Tom, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I may ... speak some words later ..."

David, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mrs. Welthorpe, please say Happy Birthday to Stevie T for me.

youn, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And for me too please Mrs Welthorpe, I can't make it out tonight as I am poor and with cold.

chris, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm afraid that I am going to another disco.

N., Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cabbage

"And for me too please Mrs Welthorpe, I can't make it out tonight as I am poor and with cold."

Had the giggling at screen thing here when I read that as WITH CHILD!

David, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I know I'm fat Mooro, but that is highly improbable!

chris, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmmmm. Dunno. Your feminine side has been coming progressively more to the fore since you've been living down south.

David, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Witchita Lineman fite! Tonite!

Is Katie coming? If so its SClub action all the way....

Pete, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Reporting Back most welcome...

Peter Miller, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Reporting Back:

Stevie T brought along not only good pal Welthorpe but also - more surprisingly - other pal Mick Jagger. Mick looked relatively youthful, for a man of c.60, in what were probably expensive Japanese togs. At about 10pm he proceeded to belt out 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' as though it was still 1968 and Stevie T was still only a twinkle in Twinkle's eye.

the pinefox, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Stop lying, you cheeky pinefox.

DG, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He ain't lying - its all true! Keef sang backing vox too, maaan.

Later, after muttering something about an "instinctive melodic ascent" a surprisingly sprightly Macca belted out Yesterday.

Tom & Pete sang some P!O!P songs, Edna did Bryan Ferry doing Lets Stick Together & betrayed no signs of her earlier hangover, Ken Chu (is there no escape?) did I'm Just A Teenage Bawbag, Josh did a song the title of which escapes me now, some old geezer did Wonderful Tonight & sounded just like Joe Cocker, a black guy with an amazing vocal range sang that Bjork Ssssh! number, and er, memory fails me.

Stevie T received an exclusive Foxgloves CD for his birthday & I'm not jealous :( A Baxendale popstar was present.

Tim, Pam & Mike had left before I got there, Lixi also left early due to her cold & the need to get some sleep in before sneezing over the Deli counter today.

I drank too much Kronenbourg & then endured a 3 hour journey home courtesy of some pissheads delaying the tube at Bank & GER delaying the last train.

And so to The Spitz tonight ...

David, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thanks, Reporters Back!

Peter Miller, Monday, 17 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My voice failed to work to 5ive, thanks to Pete for taking over. I also left early but SEEING AS NO-ONE NOTICED I WAS THERE AND I GAVE STEVIE A CARD AND EVERYTHING I supose you don't care. Bah. Then again, I shunned the crowd which featured a member of Baxenuphilldowndale. Sorry, it was nothing personal. Hold on a second...

Sarah, Monday, 17 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sarah, I noticed you! It is a shame you left early as the best part of the evening was the carousel ride afterwards! (I am six.)

rosemary, Monday, 17 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thankyou thankyou. The reporters back omitted to mention Stevie T's glorious performance of 'Hey Big Spender'. For his birthday he received: a teeny tiny cd of the foxgloves singing other people's songs; some candles in the shape of bowling pins ("also looks great on meatloaf!"); a fine bottle of armagnac; a santa door decoration; and the complete MOLESWORTH hurra hurra.

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Monday, 17 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete is well in there with karaoke lady.

Tom, Monday, 17 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think NKL really fell for me when I did my astounding version of Love Is A Battlefield.

"We are young...." Witchita Lineman had been taken off, but a storming Don't Stop Movin' was done to conjure up the spirit of the mighty Sclub.
