A male tenant of the building I live in just whistled at me as I walked rapidly from the elevator to the hallway

I am embarrassed, annoyed, amused. He shouldn't have done it, but it was sort of funny. I think it was at least sincere. But I'm not looking forward to getting on an elevator with him alone again.

I was adjusting my shirt as I walked away, feeling self-conscious, so it may have appeared as a signal, an attempt to show off my ass (which I must say is looking pretty good lately), but it was just me being my usual overly self-conscious, lazily vain, self.

It's also like a tight muscle shirt kinda thing. I threw this on because the shirt I was lounging around in was stained with tomato sauce. I bet if I had left that on, I would not have been whistled at.

If he had realized how flabby my abs are, he wouldn't have whistled I bet.

Always funny when people find the idea of attracting attention weird, then go on to describe details such as: "adjusting my shirt," and "my ass (which I must say is looking pretty good lately)."

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 24 June 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

I don't think adjusting my shirt is a request to be whistled at. I don't whistle at women on the street, when they are doing things that attract my attention. The ass comment was obviously meant to be funny. I think I would have been adjusting my shirt regardless of whether anyone saw me or not.

RS (Catalino) LaRue (RSLaRue), Friday, 24 June 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

OK, just seems like you provided these details *as if* they had something to do with you being whistled at.

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 24 June 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

Right. I think pulling up my shirt slightly to pull up my pants (which I wasn't wearing a belt on), which I think is what I must have been doing, may have attracted unwanted attention (or possibly even been misread as a signal). There's no contradiction between my seeing that and at the same time saying I didn't intentionally do these things to evoke a response from the guy on the elevator.

I don't get whistled at routinely, or basically, ever, unless it's from some asshole in a car who is doing it as a taunt (and that doesn't happen too often either).

YOU WERE ASKING FOR IT--THEY'RE ALL ASKING FOR IT

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 24 June 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

I was just taking out the trash, and didn't feel like doing it precisely because I was dreading having to face other human beings on the elevator.
