yeah, i asked for some medicine at the clinic, but they would only give me some very strong version of ibuprofen

i sprained my left ankle when i slipped on some ice 8 years ago. it never fully healed, and i'm unable to run for more than a few minutes without it being painful.

ok seriously get one physiotherapy-style ankle exercises d00d

i sprained mine (badly=twice in three days) in november (second time i wz w.geeta lookin for a non-existent thai restaurant in bethnal green) and it is really only beginning to calm down and feel it's healing now

you need to keep the joint and the ligaments on the move in every proper direction (this helps it heal fastest) and not favour it or cut out any ordinary kind of movement (probbly have to wait a few days before doing this is comfortable)

part of the slowness of my healing = all my shoes are very worn down on the outer part of the heel and i tend to scuff my feet = not move them properly

dr vick (= both parents were physiotherapists) got me some better-shaped shoes for my birthday

i sprained mine very badly many many times in high school playing football, and i dont have any lingering effects. exercises are important. first few days i was put on ice, then hot water, then ice again, etc.

ryan (ryan), Saturday, 25 June 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

also elevate it (when you can) to reduce swelling

mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 25 June 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

total dud. sprained my ankle this past spring while dancing to the beatles at a club.

RICE is the only advice i have for you and just as a warning, your ankles going to feel fucked up for the next 6 months.

Paul Sci Fi Soul is missing a "rave" tonight because of spontaneous bone spurs that have sprouted wing-like from his feet! He says they will hinder, rather than help his dancing, however. :(

just don't try to do too much too fast. sorry about the sprain, that is really ultra dud!

ICE! ICE!

Plus rest and elevation and something else that starts with a 'C'.

Aimless, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 03:13 (thirteen years ago)

Compression. But mostly ice.

I rolled my ankle walking around a corner in my kitchen yesterday. We are all idiots.

kinda tripped me out to see this thread on New Answers just now -- an hour two ago, i stopped at a gas station store to make a quick food purchase (which, it turned out, they did not have), and one of the ladies working there was carrying a big box full of stuff and trying to open the door. i ran up and tried to help her with the door, but somehow i missed the curb and twisted my ankle something fierce. she and the other gas station employee gave me a seat and encouraged me to take my time getting up, but i was close to home so i just bought a bag of ice and went on my way. ouch ouch ouch ouch.

I just jumped around on my locked ankle for an hour and a half, and tomorrow I'm going to ballet class to work it even more. I'm not good at this whole injury thing.

That last sentence should be said in a Bruce Willis or Clint Eastwood voice.

If you try to do what Bond does to an escalator divider in Skyfall i.e. slide down it you are very likely to wind up with a sprain. There are actually divideers at regular intervals with the message 'Please Stand On The Left' written on them.
Don't know why I didn't notice that one night, possibly had drunk quite a bit. Ow.

welp, got my ankle (foot, really) wrapped, and i'm just sitting in a chair for my job. but, no elevation or ice in an office setting. so that's half of RICE at least.

goole, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 19:17 (thirteen years ago)

embarrassingly i rolled my ankle reading ilx.

i was up late sunday night, surfing the web etc, finally got up from my chair, not realizing that my whole left leg was totally asleep. i had some dishes in my hand, fell right to the floor and my left foot went right underneath my ass. great job.

six years pass...

i twisted my foot in a super-dumb way on friday night and i am still hobbling around

so if i'm not really thinking despite 40+ plus years of not being a schoolkid i often sit with my leg curled up under me and it ends up going to sleep, and when i get up i have to hobble around on a numb foot until it sorts itself out. and the risk is while it's sorting itself out that you can't tell (bcz it's numb) what angle it's at and sometimes you put all yr weight on it when it's at a bad angle

ok so this time -- bcz i thought it *had* woken up, and i was moving too quickly and turning, and it hadn't woken up and was just at the worst angle in several ways-- i just put the full weight of me (a lot) onto the general area of the left cuboid and lateral cuneiform and left pinkie and ring metatarsals, i.e. more on TOP of the foot than even the side -- and there was just the most grisly crunching sound (or anyway sensation). never do this ppl.

did i actually break something? i don't think so -- i can move all my toes and actually walking on it was not awful even the day after. at rest it doesn't hurt sharply, tho it aches a little. it's actually worst after it's been resting (e.g. overnight) and has re-swollen up and stiffened again, and i am trying to wiggle the foot around. walking OK(ish), wiggling bad. i am wolfing a lot of paracetamol (which is helping).

maybe when xmas is calmed down a bit i will get my sister to run me to A&E if it's still painful. cuboid and lateral cuneiform are good names for bones, well done bodynaming types.

Commiserations mark, but hopefully it isn't serious. It's just passed the 12th anniversary of when I snapped my ankle in a drunken altercation with some stone steps. I was left in no doubt it was serious shit when it swelled up like a ball. The metal in there is a constant source of mild to very annoying pain and I also have pains in my left foot, possibly from trying to compensate for my weak right ankle or something. I thought having a slight limp might give me some wounded warrior gravitas, but I just look enfeebled and unsteady at times and occasionally pensioners make way for me in the bus queue.

calzino, Tuesday, 24 December 2019 15:06 (six years ago)

i *think* it's getting better -- it still hurts but it feels like it hurts in different and also lesser ways every day -- but i'm wondering if i as correct to assume that walking on it will be good not bad
