What skills can you offer?

Following on from RickyT's redundancy thread, what skills do you have that could be useful in a barter situation? Could it actually and practically work?

i have kick ass research skills . I can use a vareity of photographic equipment and i write rather well .

anthony, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Your poetry is beautiful, Anthony.

Mark C, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

None. Apart from a good coat.

DG, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can use Quark and Photoshop, I know BSI copy-editing symbols, have a foundation course in Company Law and (from my big exam on Saturday onwards) I will hopefully be a qualified TESOL teacher.

Will, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

never, ever offer. I'm not running a charity here

Menelaus Darcy, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

which is a cover up for having none that I can think of

Menelaus Darcy, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Menelaus, the idea is you'd get somthing in return. I can offer... um, well, I can help you write TV scripts, or children's books, that kind of thing. I'm a good proof reader, as I'm so anal. I can translate badly from Italian and even worse into Italian.

As it's a festive time of year, I can wrap presents, clamber up ladders with mistletoe, collect holly, or bake mince pies. I will do all of the above, twice, for a Playstation II with GTA3 on it.

Mark C, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am really good at research, but I don't know how useful it would be in a bartering sitch. Also great organizational skills, but again I don't see them being that much in demand when it comes to bartering.

Nicole, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

would anyone like help procrastinating? I run an e-mail service with daily updates.......

Menelaus Darcy, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am fantastic at talking to geeky people and make them feel normal!

PS Will, why are you so serious and well-behaved all the time?

Laetitia, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

excepting, of course, at work christmas parties?

Menelaus Darcy, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hank's the king of bartering. He's getting both arms sleeved out in exchange for framing. He builds tables and refinishes furniture in exchange for all sorts of things. I think i'm going to get some more ink in exchange for web design.

Samantha, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

SOMEBODY HAS TO IMPOSE MORALS ON THIS FLAGRANT CYBER-SODOM.

Will, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

To be naughty at Christmas Work Dos does count as being well-behaved in the sense of `behave as your boss/mum/society/whatever expects you to', isn't it?

Laetitia, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Doesn't everything acknowledge expectations of behaviour - i.e. no one would behave badly unless there was a conveninently shockable moral majority to play up to? This is a strange way of making geeky people feel at their ease Laeticia, I'm really quite paranoid, now!

Will, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Level 3 food safety? Handy. I have no other skills. Aside from being quite bendy.

alix, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I am scary :) MelB, eat your heart out.

Will, I am afraid you qualify as well-behaved but not as geeky, sorry.

Laetitia, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What's the difference?

Will, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

More or less bendable than Ned and/or DG?

Graham, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can search on Medline. shelve books...process inter-library loans. Basically, I am only qualified for the job I do.

james, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gale Deslongchamps, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You know how to deliver calves and hugs, Gale. Plus you have learnt to swear from reading ILE.

mark s, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi Mark S. :) I don't swear, but some of the other things are true.I have also worked in a sawmill. I was at the receiving end wher the lumber came to me and I would separate the slabs from the lumber and sort and pile it. I guess the largest from the saw that I could handle were 2X8's 16- 20 ft. long. Of course it was heavy green wood. It was really hard and heavy work. Would you have guessed it?

Gale Deslongchamps, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I make a nice cup of tea.

Andrew L, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can cook, fix tents and by extension clothes, look after children, operate most machine tools, basic mechnaics and engineering. I can grow food (plus a whole raft of computer skills which would be of low value in this community because htere's a lot of it about)

Ed, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have programming skills and experience in several languages and on three major platforms (Unix, winblows and macs) so i can cook up whatever program you need or more importantly fix your friggen computer if you give me enough beer. I can cover as a short order cook, gas station manager and theater electrician too often but as long as you keep me stoned or feed on chocolate bars I dont complain too much as long as I make minimum wage. I've also been known to rewire/fix gadgets but my soldering skills leave something to be desired but if your paying me in promo cds people generally dont care. And if I ever get the time after graduating , going to start selling/making pedals as a hobby me thinks.

Mr Noodles, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am good with children, making me suitable for adoption into a family. I've also had all my shots and I've been fixed.
