A lot of people (and I don't mean just white ones) who seem to have otherwise healthy racial attitudes (i.e. have race/ethnicity not be a factor, though you can define it differently and that's OK with me) seem to be wary of interracial porn, thinking that they're basically doomed to fail in the arousal dept, or to be looked upon with great suspicion (films like "jungle fever" getting bandied around), and that group seems to include a number of people who have themselves previously been in interracial porn films. What's your take ? Is that just the same old racism wearing a different disguise ? Do you have any personal experience of such porn ?

Also, is it just a Montreal thing, or are black-guy/white-girl pairings WAY more common than white-guy/black-girl (similarly white-guy/asian-girl vs asian-guy/white-girl) in porn ? If I'm not making this shit up, could anyone explain why that is ? If this line of questioning is offensive to anyone, please let me know - I'm kinda nervous to even be typing this, let alone posting it, but I'm genuinely curious.

I think you're right about the relative frequency of the pairings and it's obviously down to venerable racial stereotypes: the potency/hungness of the Black man and the submissiveness of the Asian woman. These stereotypes are never very far from the surface in most interracial porn, just look at the language used to describe these scenarios on porn sites.

I was flipping through the Source or XXL last month and was amazed at the number of black/Asian interracial videos advertised in the back.

I did enjoy the casual homophobia of almost every interview followed by ads for "HOT BLACK GAY STUD" porn.

The one black woman I was ever heavily involved with told me that there were reasons for black man/white woman being more common than black woman/white man. Black men feel that white women give them less attitude - and also many black men say that black women won't do anal, and white women do. Black women going out with white men get a LOT of stick from black men, and it makes it more difficult. She said also that black women have met all too many white men who just want to fuck a black woman, like ticking that off.

(I'm not indicating approval for any or all of these, obviously, and I probably should mention this is London, England, as they may not be universal. I don't personally know that she's right, but she was an extraordinarily intelligent, observant, incisive woman - I've mentioned her before: award-winning novelist, has written about racial issues in our best newspaper, and so on - so I'm inclined to put a great deal of faith in what she said.)

The thing is, it's really hard for interracial pr0n to not have undertones of racial stereotypes. I mean, we're talking about fictional scenarios here, where the actors are cast for the sake of a particular look. When it's interracial, it's always deliberately so. Not that there's any reason to take a particularly more dim view of racial stereotypes than, say, occupational or gender based ones (also key to pornography)

Incidentally, I'd think gay porn throws off that whole bit about the relative frequencies of black men, asian women, etc etc.

well if IRP didnt make such a big deal about it being BLACK men with WHITE women it would be a lot different. but it plays on stereotypes and exaggerates them to the max. mainly for white viewers i would think (though probably not exclusively).
