'bottle service': ridiculous or UTTERLY INSANE?

defined as going to a club, getting a booth, and plunking down $200 for a bottle of jack and associated mixers. i went to the opening party of a bar that specializes in such last night and i was looking at the menu and thinking that this was just the DUMBEST IDEA EVER. surely though someone must like it if three bars with this particular brand of service have opened up in the past six months, right?
