adam, i'm disappointed in you

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

Haha what's wrong with the Container Store?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

All they sell are containers.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

Our desk is from the container store. And the kitchen hutch/prepcounter too! The desk is partially held together by velcro.

I want one of those stainless steel trunks for my old music equipment. I'll probably have to wait until I grow my hair back though.

TOMBOT, Monday, 27 June 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

ts: the container store vs. bags unlimited

monsanto and yanni (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

i've actually never been in the container store, but yeah, just the name makes me think it sounds useless

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

paying loads of money to get organized sounds like the biggest waste of dough, ever.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

Haha well that goes for almost everything any of us will ever buy ever.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

Buying a new trash can vs. buying a new pair of shoes. Ooooh look at how I am being "productive" haha.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

The container store made our little kitchen into awesome.

I wish they sold better wood shelving besides that bright yellow natural spruce finish Skandia shit.

TOMBOT, Monday, 27 June 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

I found the coolest little measuring spoon thing there. Lemme see if I can find it on the site.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

Here it is!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

Are you feeling alright?

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

paying loads of money to get organized sounds like the biggest waste of dough, ever.

I might agree with you, if I didn't spend every evening just looking for...THINGS which have got lost amidst our domestic sprawl! Useful things that I NEED!!!

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm feeling fine.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

That is a wicked spoon!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

It is! I just cannot picture Alex using it!

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

Haha what does that mean?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

We need to buy another one of these, I think
http://images.containerstore.com/MEDIA/ProductCatalog/8902/8902.jpg

TOMBOT, Monday, 27 June 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

What do you use it for? is what it means!

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Very American, no? Hard to imagine a Container Store in, say, the Netherlands.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

I don't know. It seems very much an offshoot of the whole Scandinavian design thing.

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

i love stuff like this, i wish there was one here.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

"What do you use it for? is what it means!"

FOR measuring stuff!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Like Tom, I want a metal container thing. So that precious film materials cannot be stolen by people or fire.

xp - you would LOVE it, Jed! It is time that you visited San Francisco.

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Stop going out dancing and save up.

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

i just checked out the website!!!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

I still think containers are useless.

Alex's cute measuring thingie doesn't even convince me.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

I still think containers are useless.

You ean, like, pickle jars and shampoo bottles? I believe containers are quite useful, in general.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

Also, having specific places to put things makes putting them away easier. It does.

Don't be messy! Messy is not sexy.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

Ugh. Around here we have this type of store but it goes by the unbearable name "Organize Your Life."

walter kranz (walterkranz), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

does the sign have a hands-on-her-hips mom looking down on you with a frown?

oops (Oops), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

This is the only thing I've been tempted to buy after watching the commercial in YEARS.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

We have a smart spin, it's generally useful. I was disappointed in the container store though, most of it seemed pretty junky and didn't look that useful.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, don't be smart. I agree that like, regular containers are good.. but there gets to be a point when you contain everything in a dumb-like way like the lady who makes a sandwich in the office kitchen everyday and she has a cutesy colored plasic container for everything (a container for ONE piece of bread?! come on!)

p.s. people who have perfectly organized closets scare me

p.p.s. i gotta admit, though, it is nice to know exactly where something is.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

The Container Store makes the shittiest cabinets ever. Two screws fell out day two.

donut e-g (donut), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Yeah. to be fair it didn't all look good! The things made out of bamboo were nice, though. I like bamboo!

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

I want some new glasses! Ones that I can be proud to wear out of the house.

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

i want new ones, too...! mine are nice, sorta, but.. not the best.

they look like this

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

My parents have the spinny container rack thing. My dad bought it because he thought my mom would like it since she can never find tops to the containers. She hates the spinny thing. She tried to push it off on me, but I declined.

Je4nne ƒur¥ (Je4nne Fury), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

I have experienced both joys and dejections at the container store. There is a lot of cutesy, superfluous, impulse-buy nonsense there but it's very good for a well-thought-out organization plan. I had a rather wealthy friend work there once. She was dealing with some issues and felt that working there would make her feel safe. Her employment with them was short lived.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

i've seen infomercials for those spinny container rack thingies

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to store stuff under my bed!

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

they sell skandia. best shelving ever made and priced accordingly.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Monday, 27 June 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

ADAM, STORING STUFF UNDER YOUR BED = BAD FENG SHUI

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 27 June 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

yeah scientlogist probably don't approve either.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

I am going to have to bite the bullet and go to one of these stores. magazines and records and a whole bunch of stuff, it's everywhere and I don't know where to start getting it in order! so tempted to just buy some big tubs and throw it ALL in.

genital hyphys (haitch), Friday, 18 August 2006 02:49 (nineteen years ago)

I actually have under-the-bed trundle boxes from The Container Store and consider their use absolutely vital, as they store about 75% of my total CD and cassette collections. I saw the measuring spoons mentioned upthread at the store and thought, "Ooh, those look so totally awesome." I love their storage solutions and am always enthralled by what I find whenever I go into their store. I r addicted to organization. Organization is everyone's friend. Everyone should be organized.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 18 August 2006 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

crazy overpriced!

ps stop saying solutions!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 18 August 2006 03:27 (nineteen years ago)

My wife and I worked there for nearly a year back when she was still in college. I have stories...many stories involving Elfa. Mostly I worked on the truck, and I can tell you that Container Store management take the 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' approach to manager / employee relations. Lotta eye contact, lotta cliches and talk of 'teamwork,' lotta "is that right, JAMES? Wow, JAMES, I didn't know that, JAMES. Great job, JAMES!" Best of all, when stocking shelves with new inventory (every day), they would insist that we RUN through the store with these huge pallettes of merchandise. They were very serious about the running, it was company policy or something. It was 5am, and they didn't want you to walk. They wanted you to RUN. All things considered, they paid very well at the time. Wasn't the worst job I've ever had by a longshot. But creepy in a Magic Kingdom kinda way.

Re*Ac*Tor (Roger Fidelity), Friday, 18 August 2006 03:57 (nineteen years ago)

oh i miss adam
