see i wz just peggin some towels on my washing line on the roof and i have been waitin all day for a heating engineer to come and service my boiler and what if he popped by while i wz on the roof eh?

The door intercoms at work are linked into the phone system: pushing one will ring the phone of most of the people in that building. If someone messes up their phone's voicemail settings, then sometimes when someone rings the front doorbell, instead of it ringing all the phones, they get sent straight to that person's voicemail.

Answerphones would make no difference to heating engineers, as they would just buzz the buzzer, get intercom-answerphone message saying you are on roof and will be back in a minute, then they would shrug and saunter back to their heating engineer's van and DRIVE OFF without leaving any message. It is the way of things.

You don't want to have cold showers though, do you? And what about your washing machine - doesn't that have a hot (+ cold) fill to work properly? And washing up? Boiling kettles gets a bit boring after a while (I speak as one who recently had a broken boiler for three weeks while heating engineers went slowly and casually in search of spare parts, ugh).

i had the most insistent postman the other day. he didn't ring twice.. he rang thrice! i was midway through a shampoo and he dragged me out of the shower, he did. then stared at me in my pink robe, hair dripping 'were you in the bath or something?' hmmmmm
at least i didn't have to venture into the ghetto to claim the package later i suppose
