How can I turn book tokens into money?

I have no money but £50 of book tokens and I am meeting a nice girl in three hours. I was thinking I could buy £50 of books and entertain her for the evening by reading aloud to her. But probably what she wants to do isn't that & I need money. I already checked - bookshops don't give change for tokens. What would be the most profitable book to buy for £50 and then take straight to a 2nd-hand shop? Anyone want £50 of books for, say, £35?

Go to the store and pretend you're blind.

snap situation! excpet im not meeting any girl. just have all these book tokens, and keep on forgetting to spend them. my advice is to buy loads of the Penguin 70s series. you could get 33 of them. the Galbraith one is realyl good, for starters.

Not really an answer to your question, but with a book token you need never buy a birthday card again: go into a bookshop and ask to buy a book token. It will come with a free card! Then with the book token you just bought, buy another book token and collect your next free card. And so on until you get kicked out.

yeah the best thing to do is maybe wait for someone in the queue with a pile of books more than 50 quids worth and ask them if they want the tokens for £40. bit embarrassing though.
