Classic.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 1 July 2005 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

classic except on double breasted suits.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 1 July 2005 22:37 (nineteen years ago)

Perennial classic. Lengthening, slimming, smart.

elmo (allocryptic), Friday, 1 July 2005 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

she does the stripe too.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 1 July 2005 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

i would pay big money for a bridget riley-designed suit

My favorite suit was medium gray with pinstripes -- it really was a beauty. Oh for the days of 42 Regular.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 02:20 (nineteen years ago)

my new pinstripe black linen suit is most definitely classic.

although, the kids, be warned: do not go to star stitch on miller street in glasgow to get your keks shortened. they'll last two days before the thread breaks. bastards.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

classic if the clothes are expensive and well made. dud on cheap things where the stripes don't align properly.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

Old-timey pinstripes make sense. I mean didn't those stripes used to actually have a function?

quick, Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

thinning

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

I keep thinking they must have had some anchoring function or something though, really. I mean they're so tied in with the whole depression era mentality or am I just imagining that? Like who could afford to put some gratuitous stripe in your pants when there wasn't even food in the cupboard.

"i would pay big money for a bridget riley-designed suit"

I've read that Brigit is apt to be litigous about the use of her op-art stuff on fabrics. I've seen it done, but not often, and perhaps that's the reason.

Soukesian, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

classic in queens, dud in the bronx
