funny/genius/just plain bizarre ideas you get whilst dreaming

My flatmate was telling me he woke up laughing the other day because he had dreamt he saw a parody of the old R. Whites lemonade advert ("I'm a secret R.Whites drinker") on television. This time though, it featured Tony Benn creeping downstairs and opening the fridge door from which he pulled out a can with a swastika. Turning to the screen, Tony whispers "Far-Right Lemonade - I'm a secret far-right thinker".

It's not even that good but in a strange and deranged way we haven't stopped laughing about it. What other crazy sparks of genius has your sunbconscious made you come up with in the past?

Mostly songs...

"DO IT AGAIN
DO IT AGAIN
DO IT AGAIN AGAIN..
I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your walls in and when you least expect I'm gonna do it again..."

Yeah, I've woken up with opening lines to songs never made stuck in my head, and I'll write them down and keep on until I've penned a whole set of lyrics at 4 AM. Actually, that happened on Friday, except at midnight, and I spent the next three hours writing a song called "Casualty by Seduction".

i'm sure when i dream i actually live on this other planet where all the ludicrous stuff is acceptable and "actually happens" cause i'm always so tired when i wake up, or maybe i act them out and run around or try to fly, well my BF hasn't complained yet so either he is being really polite and not telling me or i just dont do it.. or maybe he joins in?

I want to open a new type of cinema which is just loads of little rooms with LCDs hooked up to servers that you can book into with limited amount of people and watch new films or older ones from a larger range of titles in digital format (you would choose what to watch as you do with in-flight entertainment systems, plus you get to pause, rewind, skip fwd etc.). Appealing mainly for new films though (otherwise you could just watch at home if you own the material innit), without the annoyance of other people like you get in bigger cinemas (but bigger cinemas and actual film as a format also nice and will never be obsolete).

Not sure which category this fits under - probably not genius but I think it's good and would like to see it happen.

i love it when you get songs in your head and you wake up and still remember them i have a jornal full of them. then i had to get a dictaphone to record them as i kept forgetting how the tune went as i looked back at them later that day...

battlingspacemonkey (battlingspacemonkey), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

I sometimes come up with great songs, that’s when I’m not being bitten by animals.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

i always wanted a dream re-cording machine where you could show them on a big screen and you could show your dream films to other people, in fact i'm also sure this is another dream i had when i was in a big white room hooked up to a tv (1970's beige tv with dials..) with wires hooked in and everyone in this other rrom was watching my dreams, and they were all a bit rude.....

I once dreamt I owned a lamp which was basically just a butterfly flying within a glass encasing. When you turned it on, the butterfly lit up and basically illuminated the whole room, but you could still see it flying around in the glass encasing. It was really cool.

In that same dream, I also had another lamp which was basically just a lightbulb floating over a flower pot. To turn on the bulb, I had to water the flower pot.

peter in montreal (spaces are allowed), Monday, 4 July 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

I don't usually dream about lamps though, that was a one time thing.

peter in montreal (spaces are allowed), Monday, 4 July 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

battlingspacemonkey (battlingspacemonkey), Monday, 4 July 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Stop me if you've heard this one, but I dreamt about a machine that made donuts. Operating the machine were bagels who were responsible for quality control. The bagels were very harried and on edge.

I dreamt last night that I blew up the moon -- and then I realised I'd watched waaay too much Mr. Show.

Ian Riese-Moraine has been xeroxed into a conduit! (Eastern Mantra), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

I dreamt that I could suddenly hear all buildings and structures - each one quietly giving out its own distinctive tone as I walked around London.

Bob Six (bobbysix), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

blowing up the moon seems to be getting mentioned a lot on ilx these days.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

true story!

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure if this counts as dreaming or not, but last night as I was drifting off to sleep I was thinking about movie-making (see Chicago thread for why) and then in my head the process of falling asleep became conflated with the process of making a movie, a movie called "PARTY," and I was freaked out because I was starting to fall asleep/make a movie, but I didn't have a plot for my movie and you can't just start making a movie without knowing what it's about. Then Sarah woke me up by saying something, which is probably the only reason why I remember this.
