Long, long corridors

Anyone know where I can locate really, really long corridors in the UK? Preferably white (hospital) corridors. It's for a photography project.

The car park under Hyde park, Park lane, London

It's not a corridor as such, but have you tried the Greenwich tunnel, also London?

Various parts of the London Underground might also be good - the passageways to the W&C platforms at Bank, for example - but flash photography is banned on LU, and I assume tripod photography would need a permit.

The former Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum which became Friern Hospital and then got turned into flats. I don't know if the corridor survive but it used to be the longest in the UK (or maybe Europe?). Or Llandough Hospital in the Vale of Glamorgan. I think that still exists.

Whipps Cross is another one.

The Marble Corridor at Cheltenham Ladies' College is nice.

Woolwich foot tunnel is generally very empty. Almost identical to the Grenwich one just more desolate.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Ambrose, are there any pictures of your university's corridor on the net? Tunnels are not exactly what I'm looking for. The photos have to be of tapered changlangs, with evidence of doors either side, dwindling into the distance.

You do have to check out the Park Lane car park then.

ok i dont think leeds uni counts. it is really several buildings connected with walkways, but technically its a corridor. if you did one from the eastern end ec stoner building, you would have a row of doors to your left, and windows to the left. i cant find any pictures, but it is also known as the "red route". the ec stoner building is the one to the left of this pic, with the walkway that forms part of the corridor:

thats the only photo i could find that even had the right building in it!

Winwick hospital near us had long long corridors too, but i'm fairly sure it's just been demolished. pointless really.

That corridor in Leeds is longer than the central hallway at NSA headquarters! Though not by much.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

hey tom did you find the corridor FAQ page or something? where did u get the facts from?

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I meant escalators. London tube stations have them, too.

youn, Friday, 8 July 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

Page 11 of this issue of the Washington Post Express has an excellent rundown on the Metro escalators. The one at Wheaton is the longest escalator in the western hemisphere.

ambrose I just recalled reading the tidbit about the NSA HQ corridor in Bamford's "Puzzle Palace" and I did a quick comparison. Google Calculator is the bomb.

I've always wondered what building inspired all that "maze of twisty little passages" business from the old text-based Adventure game. I like to think it's some early-70s CS white-box building, maybe at Caltech, where the author spent too much time tending the mainframe.
