Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I hope she goes to jail for 40 years. Fuck you, Winona Ryder, you smug Beck-fucking git. Who does prescription drugs as a hobby, btw?

Ally, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

shes going to be a crazy old cat lady. and shes with ryan adams right now fyi.

chaki, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Scratch her eyes out Ronan!

Tom, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She's with BRYAN ADAMS?!?! No wonder she's shoplifting! I bet he plays "Have you ever loved a woman?" every night before they drift off to dream land.

Mandee, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OOOOH ! CHAKI WINS THE GOSSIP BATTLE! ALLY IS DOWN!

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She just won my heart back.

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Winona Ryder = Richard Madeley of the US?

RickyT, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hahahahahahahaha!

DG, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, now I know exactly what to do if I ever want to get in the sack with Winona. It's high time I applied to Contemporary College Loser Rock school. (Where the hell is David Perning these days, anyway?)

Brian MacDonald, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I blame Courtney. Way to go, Courtney!

Arthur, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was thinking that too Arthur, it was the hanging out with Courtney bit that led her to a life of crime.

Nicole, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Speaking of La Court, I see Novoselic and Grohl are suing her now. The soap opera that would not die, ladies and gentlemen!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, did you read the recent NME interview with her? Hands down the most entertaining feature they've done in aeons, whether you like Courtney or not.

Nicole, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, I understand the Ryan Adams thing even more so now. I wonder if VH1 has started producing the Behind the Music yet.

bnw, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, did you read the recent NME interview with her?

I barely follow the print issues and I've even stopped checking the website. Any particular revelations?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, start yr own thread if you want to talk about Courtney, this is IMPORTANT. I am gutted (if not surprised).

Jeff W, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Winona Ryder is the only woman in western civilisation who takes Bono seriously, so "doing a Madeley" is pretty much par for the course.

Trevor, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Courtney interview is relevant, since it took place at Winona's house and had pictures of them hanging out together, looking slightly crazed.

I'll just summarize the WR bits: Winona starts crying at the Strokes gig she attends with Courtney because she decides they're the most amazing band to come across the pike since the Replacements, but backstage tells Julian Casablancas off because he got all snotty about Bono, saying something like "How dare you say shit about Bono?! He's like family!". Courtney is the one who has to calm her down.

If those lickle anecdotes aren't evidence of mentalism, I don't know what is.

Nicole, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sadly, all of this is making me like Winona Ryder even more. Three cheers for mental celebrities!

Dan Perry, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

she decides they're the most amazing band to come across the pike since the Replacements
I doubted her acting abilities lately. But after reading that article, I think she might be able to come back.... after being in prison for a few decades. Crossing my fingers...Saw Lost Souls the other week. I did a Linda Blair vomit launch against my telly.

helen fordsdale, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"scratch her eyes out Ronan"

I hate you. right now I am thinking of witty beard mocking remarks. although my work is done to be honest.

Ronan, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i always think things seem meaner when they actually are posted.

Ronan, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This is pretty shocking. But it's not totally inexplicable. I think she mentioned in an interview once that she got arrested as a kid for stealing a comic book. And of course, she's had well-documented problems with depression and pills. I hope she's okay.

Justyn Dillingham, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i thought ryan adams had been ditched for pete yorn? let this be a lesson: this is what happens when your ex breaks out of mtv2land and into the big show before your current beau.

maura, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So whatever did happen to Dave Pirner anyway? Is he a town drunk somewhere in Brainerd going "I used to fuck Winona, you know! And I was on MTV!" Then he tugs at his bald spot and cries.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Heh. Brainerd. Brainerd makes me think of Alewife. No wait that's Braintree. Never mind.

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Suvi Jokinen, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you like Elizabeth Wurtzel too?

Nicole, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe it is Elizabeth Wurtzel.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

More people should shout "Or am I wrong?" mid-post

mark s, Tuesday, 9 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

My best friend just saw Soul Asylum OPEN for Cowboy Mouth. This makes me sad.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Which part of it?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Every part.

That my best friend found herself in the environment of such a show.
That Soul Asylum hasn't bowed out with any grace that they could salvage.
That Soul Asylum had the support slot to a heinous, heinous band.
That Cowboy Mouth exists, and has not been smeared like a firefly by the thumb of a righteous and wrathful god.

Cowboy Mouth, ladies and gentlemen. So Geddy Lee is in this band, then?

Sign that Soul Asylum is really hitting the skids -- a couple of years back they could at least support Matchbox 20. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking of fireflies, Cowboy Mouth is just a tiny insectish phoenix rising from the ashes of the under-noticed-but-still-insanely-fun-live Dash Rip Rock.

As such, I've got no beef with them except perhaps for song recyclage (particularly Jenny Says, but there are others).

I have seen Dash Rip Rock several times and Cowboy Mouth I think twice, but I don't remember any of those shows being situations where they didn't open for someone else, and only a couple times did I actually go to see Dash Rip Rock specifically.

(Sometimes I know it was like "Hey, and look who's opening. Cool." I believe they opened for Drivin' n' Cryin' a couple times. Jeez... I do feel weird around here for being raised on "southern alternative" and jangley guitars in the mid-to-late 80s. IRS and dbs rekkids, muthafuckas! Yes, I did actually see Fetchin' Bones live. And Guadalcanal Diary before they broke up.)

So, it's not an accomplishment that Soul Asylum opened for them, but at least they can laugh, and the dude who looks like Geddy can laugh harder.
