For an economist, a lot of that stuff is highly, umm, speculative. As far as supporting evidence goes, "the countries that get all the aid are in the worst shape" is just a tad, ya know, unacademic. Although yeah, a lot of what he has to say is a pretty good critique of the targets and applications of western aid.

Other than that he talks a bit more like a politician than an economist -- i.e., some moral-philosophical notions to sell, as opposed to some observation and data to discuss.

The idea that dumping large amounts of free food in a country will, over time, stunt the growth of indigenous farming makes perfect sense to me. He did come off a bit one note and preachy but this was an interview with a popular magazine after all.
