Why did that punk Encyclopedia Brown get away with all his lame deductions?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

what did the caspian sea?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

These are not mysteries. They are questions.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Some of them are also riddles.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

I am good at solving arson or murder or thievery.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Some lame-ass detective you are.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

My roommate can't find his keys. Last seen: opening his mailbox, near Cortez and Wasthenaw.

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

I will begrudgingly take incriminating photos of your adulterous spouse, but I am capable of more.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

A CASE! The Case of the Roommate's Keys!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

Hot dog!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Who pooped in my bathtub?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Let me consult with my informant, Squeaky Jerome, and I'll get back to you.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

...they have a bottle opener on them. Used just prior to disappearance to open bottles of PBR........WHICH ARE SCREW-TOPS!

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, do you have any enemies? Specifically any enemies with poor bladder control and a disdain for personal hygiene?

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

Ah ha! A clue in the Case of the Missing Keys! A potential motive!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

what's the deal with all the asssex around here? WHAT IS THE DEAL

g e o f f (gcannon), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, do you have any enemies? Specifically any enemies with poor bladder control and a disdain for personal hygiene?

Yes. I'll get you mugshots of the likely felines, er, felons.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

My theory is that your roommate was using his bottle opener key chain to open screw-top PBR bottles at a local pub, which enraged a former frat boy whose specialty is opening beer bottles with the crease in his neck. Seeing this disdain for proper beer bottle opening technique, he was enraged and pilfered your roommate's keys. I shall scour the local sports bars until I find the bastard.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, you may suspect one cat, but the culprit is the other cat, who is framing the first cat. The first cat is also being blackmailed into taking the fall for the devious crime.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

DASTARDLY.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

Behold! I show you a mystery. Who was the mysterious logged out person who dogged Mr. Perry in his grump? Enquiring minds and all that.

Aimless (Aimless), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

I'm speechless before your monumental powers of deduction. Check the Clipper, too, since we were there recently and some non-frat boy indie-dudes were playing very aggressively with a butterfly-knife-style bottle opener. They, too, may have taken umbrage with the pitiful plastic bottle opener dangling from M4xie's keys.

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, do you have a butler?

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

I have a girlfriend, does that count?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

M. White, just who is the detective here!?!?

On a completely unrelated note, M. White is clearly the person who was harassing Dan Perry yesterday.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

While this may be true, Nick, I was most certainly not logged out.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

M. White, I never thought you'd have the guts to come around here. What's that? What are you laughing about? That shrill shriek sends a chill down my spine! What are you doing? Get away from me! What is that? Oh god no...(choke)! Put that gun away!
AAAAAAAAARGH! I've been shot!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

So far this is more Hart 2 Hart than Banacek.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

TO BE CONTINUED...

The continuing adventures of NICK DANGER

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Since my parents were killed before my very eyes by two armed thugs I swore never to use a gu.....ooops, I've said too much already.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

Back to the crimelab!

Ok, so, we found one of the missing PBR bottles. I ran the screw top under a laser as I spinned it, just like a primitive record. Then I cleaned up the audio file and came out with this: "FFFFFFFFUCCCCCCCKKKKKKKASLDJFKLSAJKLSJADFKL!!!" I hope that helps.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

FFFFFFFFUCCCCCCCKKKKKKKASLDJFKLSAJKLSJADFKL!!!

Really? Shit. I think I know EXACTLY who that would be...

fourteen years pass...

I am resuming the post abandoned by Nick A. I'm a bonded private investigator. I am here to solve the cases that the greasy pigeon-toed gumshoes won't shake a stick at.

Bring me your missing persons, your cheating spouses - and I will get to the bottom of this.

Don't let my status as the first caveman detective scare you off - I have a 75% solve rate!

... that's Traore! (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 00:30 (five years ago)

But first, I begin with one mystery...who killed Nick A?

... that's Traore! (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 00:31 (five years ago)

all these years, we THOUGHT it was M. White....but....

... that's Traore! (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 00:31 (five years ago)

I've never been so sure. I think he may have been a patsy. a mark. I think there was someone else in that office! and I think White took the fall. so ....where does the trail lead us? I start first at...NICK A'S OFFICE!

... that's Traore! (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 00:32 (five years ago)

It hasn't been disturbed since that night. Nick A's ex-spouse has continued to pay rent at the property, to preserve his office the way it was. Blood spatter has permanently stained the rugs, but the walls have been repainted.

No use dusting for prints - although I do have access to the crime databases, unfortunately, this crime scene has since been contaminated by many visitors. it's been 14 years. but maybe, just maybe, I can turn up a clue, a piece of ev-

....what's this?

tucked underneath the carpet? how was this missed?

it's a matchbook. from the Cuckoo Clock Supper Club. wow.

Oh my. I just flipped it open. On the inside, is written the following statement:

"NO SB
7:30 PM
ALONE
BASEMENT"

but...what does this mean?

... that's Traore! (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 00:36 (five years ago)

SB...could it mean...."suggest ban"? That's preposterous. According to available records, SB didn't show up until 2008 or 2009.

WAIT!

The first mention of the "suggest ban" occurred in the summer of 2008...by Keith. who explained he had already coded it TWO YEARS AGO. That means he would have coded the Suggest Ban feature in...2006!

Perhaps while Nick was investigating the case, he learned of a plot by the coders and moderators to install a SUGGEST BAN system - and had joined a secret society to destroy it from within. and perhaps, sensing the threat to the SB system, one of the perpetrators got wise...took Nick out, and framed M. White, thus...ENDING THE SOCIETY?!

I will begin by going to the Cuckoo Clock Supper Club

... that's Traore! (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 00:41 (five years ago)

Well fuck, it's a Spoleto now. But the owner has indicated that the infamous basement still exists, but has gone utilized, since they are now just a chain pasta restaurant.

He is taking me downstairs. He says the previous owner sold the place to him in....2007.

so I'm walking downstairs now. my, it's dark down here....hey, would you mind giving me a little li....(turns)

who are you? where did the owner go? why do you have that shovel? oh no. think about what you're doing, sir.

think about...(CLANG)
