phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

Can I choose Sassy?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

No.

Teen Vogue, because of my connections with the worker bees there.

Jimmy Mod Is Sick of Being The Best At Everything (ModJ), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

Sassy's gone, isn't it? Then I vote for Latina Girl, defunct as all getout.

andy --, Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

What was the mag that all the Sassy people went to when Sassy went all defunct? Can I pick that one?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

I used to read Sugar a lot. Has it gone bust?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

It's a cold, cold world for hot teen mags.

andy --, Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

SASSY

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

sorry, you have to choose between teen vogue and elle girl.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

I've never read either.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

Ellegirl, because they don't feature as many well-connected tools who all go to the same private school in new york city or LA (as Teenvogue).

tess (Jools), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

What they have one less or something? Come on every single magazine is staffed with folks like that.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

ellegirl has fun parties though.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

no, it's not the staffing i'm talking about, it's the "go-sees"

tess (Jools), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

what are you a model?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

i kinda wanna subscribe to both of these now

joseph (joseph), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

teen vogue is only $12 a year and you get a FREE SPECIAL GIFT.

(did u see the m1ssh4pes photo spread last month?)

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

i did not but i totally just PWNED the global guy safari game on the ellegirl website!

joseph (joseph), Thursday, 7 July 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

SASSY

Jane isn't worth the paper on which it's printed.

j.lu (j.lu), Thursday, 7 July 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

i loved it when jane had soop dogg on the cover and the headline was like "sexiest men of the year" or something like that. or maybe i made that up, but i think i remember seeing that

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 7 July 2005 00:11 (twenty years ago)

Elle Girl because I like Elle and don't like Vogue. And my company sorta works with them.

Candicissima (candicissima), Thursday, 7 July 2005 00:43 (twenty years ago)

Elle Girl by a hair, but Teen Vogue is definitely worthy as well. Which one went on a spate of doing boy/girl covers? Alexis Bledel w/ Adam Brody, etc. That tactic was a bit disconcerting.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 7 July 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

elle girl

You did not make this up, I remember having a great giggle over this. That was totally awesome.

Teen Vogue and Elle Girl both kind of suck because, really, what the hell is their market? Are there a lot of 14 year olds going to Smirnoff Ice-sponsored parties in Imitation of Christ or something? Cos I don't really remember that.

soop dog?

Jane isn't worth the paper on which it's printed.

Yeah, it's horrid. Avoid at all costs.

You know, it's been a while since I've really checked out any fashion magazines -- magazines like Vogue and Allure have become quite dreary in the last few years, I don't know if that has anything to do with the shift from using models to using overexposed celebrities. But I find them to be pretty bland now. Are Elle Girl or Teen Vogue worth looking into? I haven't ever read them.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

I'd heard that Jane was inferior. I guess I don't pick Jane.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

both. I still feel like I don't BELONG in the world of the adult ones, and probably never will! I also like NYLON, which has amazing layouts and is just nice to look at.

I think the market for most of these magazines is pretty limited. The items listed in Teen Vogue are way cheaper than vogue but still completely out of MY price range, so I dont know what kind of teen can buy them. Oh well, I still like TO DREAM.

gunther heartymeal (keckles), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

I've often wondered if editor Jane was injured in a horrible trepanning incident between Sassy and Jane.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

i vote for whichever has better grime coverage

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

I remember once in like 1996 seeing a blurb in Teen Vogue about Medeski Martin and Wood that called them "hotties". One of the most heartfelt wtfs ever.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

i certainly wouldn't kick medeski out of bed for eating soy crackers

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I've opened an elle girl before, but I know I'm not down with teen vogue. I grabbed one that was in the mail trash in my apartment building to read at the airport while waiting. I didn't know who half the celebrities were - they seemed more like socialites than anything else. Then I was totally embarassed to notice three actual teenage sisters sitting across from me smirking.
