Jackie Chan: "I don't even know who Chris Tucker is"

Jackie Chan says Rush Hour 3 held up because of Tucker’s demands
HONG KONG (AP) — Jackie Chan says the third instalment in the Rush Hour series is held up because co-star Chris Tucker is making too many demands.
The Hong Kong actor also questioned whether Tucker has the stature to make so many requests.
“He wants too much power. The movie company hasn’t obliged. He wants final editing rights and the final look at the movie and so on,” Chan said Thursday in an interview with The Associated Press.
Chan said the situation was made difficult by the need to treat him and Tucker equally.
“That’s why they (the movie company) haven’t agreed to his demands after so long,” Chan said.
He called Tucker a “good friend” but questioned whether Tucker had the stature to be so demanding.
“He’s still a new actor. How many movies has he made? Two movies have already made him very famous and made him a lot of money,” Chan said.
“He needs to learn slowly,” he added.
Tucker thinks Chan is too much of a pushover when it comes to furthering his own interests, the Hong Kong star said.
“When he asks me what I want, I say, ‘I don’t care,’ and he’ll scold me, saying, ’They make so much money off us. We’ll have to get it back,”’ Chan said.
The Rush Hour series has thrived on the interracial comic chemistry between Chan and Tucker.
Chan also says his new movie The Myth is an attempt to change his image as a one-dimensional action star.
Chan plays an ancient Chinese general who’s reincarnated in modern times and looks for his love interest from his previous life, who has survived because she took a longevity pill.
Chan said he found his role’s stoicism challenging.
“(Director) Stanley Tong would tell me, ’You have to convey love but can’t use any facial expressions.’ How can you do that? It’s impossible to do,” Chan said at a news conference in Hong Kong.
The Myth features a racially diverse cast that includes South Korean Kim Hee-sun and Bollywood sex symbol Mallika Sherawat. It was shot at locations in China and India.
The action star also said he’s working with famed Chinese director Zhang Yimou on a project but declined to reveal details, saying only that it would be “galvanizing” and is set in the 1980s.
Zhang’s recent work includes the martial arts films Hero, which stars Jet Li and House of Flying Daggers, which features Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Zhang Ziyi.

Haha I don't see that sentence in there at all. I wonder if Rush Hour 3 will come out before Shanghai Noon 3.

The Rush Hour Shanghai Noon series has thrived on the interracial comic chemistry between Chan and Tucker Wilson.

jackie chan is sort of boring these days.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

I do want to see him in a Zhang Yimou movie, but unlike Li, I can't really see Chan doing too much with a serious role (even though Crime Story is quite good.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

Chris tucker is that annoying little twit who ruined a couple of your recent films. Remember? Black dude, voice like Alvin the Chipmunk, does a Step-n-Fetchit turned Dirty Harry act that makes you want to bury him alive?

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

wong kar-wai should cast jackie chan

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Mcuh as I love Jackie, I just don't see him turning in a genuinely good dramatic performance. Once I had hopes he could go all Burt Lancaster on us, but now I don't think it's likely at all. If he could get a full body ligament and cartilege transplant every 15 years I'd be happy for him to keep on doing comedy chop socky forever, though.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

a movie where the control is being wrestled between Brett Ratner and Chris Tucker? yaaay...

Caruso actually had some decent skills at one time. King of New York, good role.

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

I actually enjoyed Caruso in that Section 9 movie (or whatever that movie about the guys fixing an insane asylum was called). But if he's playing an irate cop I run for the hills.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

Caruso and Laura Linney should make a movie about a bitter, indignant cop being prosected by a bitter, indignant D.A. who accidently meet in a clown-spanking chat room.
