Because the other thread was getting too long...

I'm angry at this thread.

Long threads gum up the server if lots of people are hitting them whether people have show recent meassages only option on or not.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

Thread length. Does it matter?

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

I would suggest that this is not 100% true. The only thing I notice that gums up the server is changing thread or board permissions (banning).

Thread length. Does it matter?

It's what you do with it, surely?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

This bitch took my whole thread in her mouth. It was like, 780 new answers, WHAT A SLUT.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

actually you know Ed is right the code is rubbish this way it does a massive selec of all messages and then winds through to the ones that you want to read. it would probably improve things on the server if LAST was used or something like that. JSL

this made me robble.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Right.

I guess the thread (previous) was aimed at me.

I started a "Thread Two" on the London Explosions, as I wanted to keep up with news, but the server was "poxyfuling" halfway through thread loading. This does not broadcast the familiar message, it stops the thread loading. Press refresh, the thread does the same thing. And of course, while I may be not getting to the info, many other people are being 'poxyfuled' as well.

A short thread is quicker to load than a long one, even given the 'show last 20' option, right?

Normally I'd apol. But fuck it, this one was too important.

Your call.

Anonymous sniping = you fit the bill

xposts

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 8 July 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

i agree with you mark, i have the 'only show x posts' option and it still gets in a huff on loading up long threads.
