The Euro coins- C/D?

The new currency has arrived.... sort of. Not legal tender until January the coins are now being circulated and I just queued with a no. of senior citizens to collect my free ‘starter packet’.

So new and shiny looking, you half-expect to unwrap them and find chocolate inside. The fragmented map of Europe on the 20-cent coin looks a bit odd, with gaps instead of Switzerland and the Balkans (excl Greece) but Britain is included.

Any views from other IL* Euro-zoners?

Do any other currencies do a free "starter pack"? It's just I'm a bit unsure about sterling, and could do with some help.

I wonder if they were created because bills (bills bills) don't seem to last as long as coins. Anyway it sucks. Bills don't weigh as much. And I also hate hate hate that they have the cents (or whatever you call it, you know the 0.01 and so on). I hate it as much as my english is crap. heheheh
Stevo, did you also have to make a special appointment to receive yer coins? My dad got'em already on wednesday. They won't take the money off his account till Janurary 1st. I was thinking about ordering for a few million now and then cancel my account and run off with the money.

Helen, your english is not crap at all. Yeah they are quite heavy aren’t they? I didn’t have to make an appointment to collect them, as in the Netherlands everyone got sent a coupon against which, as of today, they could exchange for a free eurokit containing all the Dutch euro-coins worth €3.88.

The Dutch are never ones to look a gift-horse in the mouth and large queues formed at various outlets. The govt. is already worried about running out of kits. I’ve already posted mine on to my parents (voted UK Independence Party last time) to see what they make of them.

You could also exchange guilders for a limited amount of € coins, all freshly minted and sparkling, so I picked up a few more in case supplies run out in the new year (it could get chaotic).
