i dont think its v. good but the performances are strong, and i find it seductive...

my aunt's been telling me to see this for ages, but i don't generally agree with her choice in movies. i tried to rent it the other night but they only had dvd, no vhs, and i still haven't gotten around to buying a dvd player.

i was kinda bored by it when i saw it, but it kinda haunted me later and then i accidentally started reading the book upon which it was based (widow for one year?) which takes the story even further, and i was hooked. i recommend reading it after watching it, and in that order too.

I didn't love it, but two of my friends who are big Irving fans said that it was great, as long as you realize it's only the first third of the book.

Worth watching/don't mind missing. A qualified thumbs kinda up.

Not seen the film but liked the book. Saw John Irving give a talk at the Edinburgh Book Festival a couple of years ago, he seemed pretty enthusiastic about the film.
