Taking Sides: Horatio vs Grissom

What's Grissom's first name anyway?

Why does he never wear shades?

Why does Horatio ALWAYS wear shades!

Man, why did they hire a GINGER to be the lead in CSI: Miami!

Which is the evilest ginger! Horatio or the ginger part-time Lesbian in Vegas?

YOU DECIDE!

Apparently Tarantino thinks Vegas is best, well HEM HEM that say it all.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

I missed the "furry" episode of CSI last Friday.

That Peregrine informs me that Grissom signed off by saying I guess it's fur and loathing in Las Vegas.

Marvellous.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

Dude, there's no contest. Horatio is awful and rub, Grissom is ubercool.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

HORATIO IS TEH BEST, he says having never watched any vegas but quite a lot of miami

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

Nicole OTM.

Besides, they do so show Grissom wearing shades. But only when he's out during the daylight. Which isn't very often, what with him being the NIGHT TEAM MANAGER!!!

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

Another question is this:

What IS a "swing shift"?

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

A bad Goldie Hawn movie?

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

Grissom all the way.

I'm also a bit confused as to what series is which, why are Channel 5 showing another episode on Fridays? Is it part of the same series as Tuesdays? It doesn't seem like it.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

This is why I hate Horatio:

"...Either that, or a shark that wears Armani" (cue daltry)
YYYYEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhh.........

I mean, just look at him! You can just tell from the picture he is a smug jerkoff.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

The ginger lady is evilest. The best lady is the blonde Southern belle on Miami. Alex the pathologist is funny but I wouldn't trust her.

xpost: I would trust that man!!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

geyser, i got totally busted laughing out loud in the office at that

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

and phwoar EMILY PROCTOR!

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

it's Gil Grissom. short for Gill, maybe.

The work shift between the day and the night shifts, usually 4 P.M. to midnight.

Tarantino episode this tuesday but subject matter may be a bit uncomfortable considering...

ste: friday is 'best of', tuesday is normal series of which tomorrow is double size finale.

koogs (koogs), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Grissom is the bestest...Horatio is so far up his own ass that it would take Alex, the weird and kinda creepy "I talk to corpses" coroner woman, to extract him (btw is Khandi Alexander related to Brandi Alexander?...just wondering)

Who's this faux-lesbian ginger woman in CSI:Vegas we're talking about, she sounds kinda hot? I'll second those Emily Proctor remarks, that Southern accent just does it for me...Any idea why she left The West Wing?

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

I'd guess that "Gil" might be short for "Virgil" in which case this may be some sort of in-joke (Along the lines of the "John Carter" thing in ER) as there was a Virgil "Gus" Grissom who died in the Apollo 8 fire iirc.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

emily proctor seems like a pretty decent actress, based on the csi miami episodes i've seen. and the accent is nice.

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

ha, yes, people named after the brothers in Thunderbirds 8)

koogs (koogs), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Grissom. Not even a question, though I have no prob with H -- he (and the coroner) are the only things I really like about CSI Miami. Well, I also like the police det they won't put in the opening credits who played a corrupt treasury agent in Cliffhanger. But that's it.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

horatio is an acquired grown-up taste like avocado or saxophone solos

jones (actual), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Basically I'd do Kane, but not Grissom.

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

there was a Virgil "Gus" Grissom who died in the Apollo 8 fire

among other things, and it was Apollo I

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

There is a schism in the Sgs/Markelby household - she wuvs Grissom (why? Slick creepy pretentious bondage fantasist) while I think Horatio is a wonderfully tragic parody of the hero he thinks he is.

However, only Emily Procter does it for me (...) in Miami, whereas George Eads, Marg and Jorja all rock my world.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

If he is called Virgil I'm sure there's a considerable weight of Dantesque imagery behind the choice of name.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

they're both sort of sexless but horatio plays that as a full-tilt martyrdom thing, wheras grissom just seems a pre-occupied virgin most of the time

jones (actual), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

kane = represents the existentialist dilemma at its most pure

viz what if the man who rids us of upper-level quotidian evil is SATAN HIMSELF

mark s (mark s), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

i enjoy actors playing a hammy version of themselves, so i ll side with horatio here. csi vegas is better because of the team chemistry, not because of grissom, hes boring

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

Grissom all the way! I love that guy. I refuse to even watch teh nu-CSI because it R looking CRAP, and that redhead nob gives me the heebies. But Grissom, he's fab. I love how they established that plotline right at the start that he's losing his hearing, and you kind of forget about it, but every now and then FOR NO RAISON he suddenly can't hear what someone's saying to him.

Man, this night shift is messing with my branes.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 11 July 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, those night shift/membranes issues are a real bitch.

Negativa, True Believer (Sheryl Crow in a Britney costume) (Barima), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

Horatio Kane is the name of the EVIL VILLAIN in the episode of the Avengers entitled Death at Bargin Prices who built an ATOMMICK BOMB in the washing machine basement of his department store!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

PS it is tonight yay

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

I have cancelled all plans to stay in and watch it. I just hope I don't fall asleep before the conclusion...

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

i had a dream last night that i watched this tarantino episode, but all i can remember is grissom sat on the wing of a jet plane with horatio while the plane is speeding down a runway. yes i know horatio isn't in it.

but yes, looking forward to this tonight.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

Why do people think he's smug? I mean, his humour is a bit off, but Horatio is not smug. He just wants to do right and hides his feelings. I do find his facial expressions or the way he holds his eyes slanted (????) awful but he seems a genuine nice fellow. Still I think Grissom is ubercool. :-)

nathalie's body's designed for two (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

So they didn't how the Tarantino ep last night "in the light of the recent bombings".

Don't they realise that some of us actually find it COMFORTING to watch CSI, especially in the light of horrible and tragic events? Because the idea that there is a Grissom out there, sifting through forensics and catching the bad guys is the only thing giving me hope at the moment?

MIS Information (kate), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 06:45 (twenty years ago)

has anyone on earth ever wathed the new york one? no

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 06:57 (twenty years ago)

I've watched the NY one. It's pretty rubbish.

MIS Information (kate), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 06:59 (twenty years ago)

pah!

oh well at least I have another week of anticipation. and the two eps on last night were not all that bad.

I've never watched the NY one either, only the Miami ep where they introduced the new show. Although I do like that actor who plays the lead 'grissom/horatio' role.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 07:57 (twenty years ago)

The butterfly one is one of my faves, esp for the intro shots of Grissom padding around the house in his protective booties, and for the subtle reveal of the Grissom/Sara Sidle relationship. But it was hardly subject matter that failed to resonate with recent events...I wondered if watching the Tarantino eps would have been any more so. (I doubt they will affect me any less watching them a week from now.) I skipped watching the robot one as I've seen it so often that I remembered right away whodunit.

Mark is right about the schism in our household. Horatio annoys me because of his diction than anything. And I find his squinty seethingness less comforting than Grissom's occasional loud anger, but will watch Miami if only for Emily Procter, Weapons Expert.

The NY one does suck. They got something really wrong with that--I suspected the color palette first but haven't watched the Sinise enough to really tell.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

...diction MORE than...

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 08:54 (twenty years ago)

we watched an ep of Miami last night as well, the one where Speeds gun misfires and Cally gets dosed on coke accidentally. she so cute when she's high.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

The problem with NY is the tried to make it like a gritty law and order style drama and a sexy las-vegas-has-moved-to-new-york soap at the same time woth disatrous results althouh i am a fan of Gary Sinise in general.

I love Grisssom cause he is the original but i like horatio because he shows his ore human side and actually seems to have emotions.
