Should i cut my hair?

I really am in two minds about this. Being a bloke, with kind of long hair (just past my shoulders) i havent had it cut for about 2 years, but now its getting to the point where if it isnt getting in my eyes, its getting caught in things and generally getting in the way. On top of this my hair is really thick and its a nightmare in the hot weather. The thing is though, i like the way it looks and don't want to get it really short like i did in my teenage years and make myself look like a chav.

I know this sounds like a really self-absorbed question but i would like to know how everyone else gets on with long hair?

I dont mean cut it myself, i mean get it done properly. :-)

damn, cut it. i got rid of mine the day i was walking through windy edinburgh trying to eat chips and got a big mouthful of hair and brown sauce instead. i've never looked back.

number two at the back and sides, good bit longer on top and at the front, dax short and neat to style. rockin'.

Taken about 3 or 4 months ago so a bit longer than this now.

grimly, brown sauce and hair = classic.

dmun drive-in (dmun), Monday, 11 July 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

I would cut that just because it looks... unwieldy. Then again if I had that much hair, I'd be sporting a mega-afro.

Leave it long and my wife would happily leave me for you.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Monday, 11 July 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could rock long hair- but I wear glasses, and I find that combination hard to pull off, personally.

I had long hair in high school at certain points, and it was really fun to play with, bite, twirl, tug at etc.

Drew Daniel, OTM. Fun to play with, bite, twirl, tug and hide behind.

Then again if I had that much hair, I'd be sporting a mega-afro.

You should go for it!

strng hlkngtn, Monday, 11 July 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

It depends on the word.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Monday, 11 July 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

that's not too bad actually. but i wouldn't advise any longer than that

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 11 July 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

i nominate "bloggapleeze" for jess

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 July 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

no wait, how about "- 5000 ft."

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 July 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

In that case, then, the answer is of course yes.

x-post

I want rid of this afro. Who's with me?

Yours (confused),

Rima

(Also, Jess, the word should be "standard" or "Murkleman")

Used to have mine about that length, but I ended up cutting it off because my hair is also of the super thick and somewhat wavy variety. Hair like that plus heat and humidity is a horrible mix.

Everyone should aspire to Ben Wallace hair, seriously now.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

As detailed on a couple of other threads, I just got my shaggy shaggy hair trimmed way down to shorter than it's been since I was 12. I like how easy it is now, but also I feel like I look more boring. I'm hoping once it gets a week or two of growth I won't look so shorn.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

oh shush. it's hott nick

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I thought the short haircut looked very nice. Long hair is seriously overrated in most cases.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Unless you're Ben Wallace?

Negativa, True Believer (Sheryl Crow in a Britney costume) (Barima), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

Exactly.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

yuck. he's NAAAASTY

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

(ps: who is he?)

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

Alright, seriously, the length of my hair is fine, if a little irritating to shape in the morning. But now that I believe I'm cool enough to wear nice hats for the first time since childhood, something's gotta give.

Negativa, True Believer (Sheryl Crow in a Britney costume) (Barima), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, ladies!

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

Watch it, his gf also posts around these parts...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:35 (twenty years ago)

Hehe. In that case I won't start out "you have lovely hair...".

You might try going to a stylist and asking them to thin it out a bit/cut in some layers so it will be less unwieldy and easier to deal with. I wouldn't reccommend cutting it all off if you like the way it looks.

mouse (mouse), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

re: photo, I think it's fantastic, I wish I had the patience to grow mine without going through the awful intermediate stages. Maybe get it cut to something a little shorter than the photo, so it's not too long?

astropatty (adr), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

... and technically i'm married. ha!
it's all fun and games... until i get an eye gouged out
