Your weekly burrito consumption

Message Bookmarked
Bookmark Removed
I realized today that since moving to the West Coast, burritos are the thing i most consume over a week's time, to about 5-6 per week. This can be attributed to the number of taquieras locally and to how I'm on the go all day for work.

How about you? How many burritos do you eat per week?

― kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

3 per month, maybe. I eat more tacos than burritos now.

― M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

On average, I would estimate that I eat about 1/4 to 1/2 of a burrito per week (2-4 per month).

― n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

However, I have a girlfriend and standards and she has standards as well.

― n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

One can't eat burritos for every meal. It's unseemly.

― n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Besides, pizza.

― n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

If frozen chimichangas count as well, six a week is pretty accurate.

― Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

my burrito consumption is low. i live in england:/

― charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Shawerma, thai, chinese, vietnamese, bbq, pizza....

― M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I do not understand the appeal of burritos.
0 per month.

― oops (Oops), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops, you're supposed to take the foil off before eating them. I told you before.

― M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I eat a lot more quesadillas than I do burritos. Quesadillas are my default "cooking drunk/late at night" meal.

― n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"standards"

― cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops, you're supposed to take the foil off before eating them. I told you before.

Haha, I was drunk one night and so I went to Flash Taco, and was chowing down on my burrito when it occurred to me that the tortilla was a little different this time -- a little flakier, almost like phyllo. I was actually enjoying it until I looked down and realized I'd eaten half of the paper wrapper.

― jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Every workday
I have one (1) burrito.
That is about it.

― Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

""standards""

― n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

oh oh i think i've been to flash taco! are there like three of them within a block of each other? open late? somewhere near (uh) ashland and division or something?

― g e o f f (gcannon), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

2-3 a week! Hold the dairy!

― Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

winter: 6-8 per month
summer: 1 per month

― mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

altho, this probably depends on one living in a sizable urban setting.

― kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Geoff, you are thinking of something else! Which I only know because I stumbled past it (them?) drunk the other night while trying to catch a cab! I forget the name ... but you're right that it's near Ashland/Division.

Flash Taco = Damen/North/Milwaukee.

― jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I've gotten tired of burritos and hardly ever order them. Look at what the taqueria employees bring to the table on their lunch break: it's never burritos (usually rice, beans, corn tortillas, and some mole sauce or something)... that's very telling.

Maybe someday I'll get back into them, but I'm on a big tamale trip right now and burritos seems bland and hippy now.

― andy --, Monday, 11 July 2005 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Less than one a month. Philadelphia is not a good city for Mexican food. All the Mexicans in kitchens here are busy making textureless pizza.

― RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

MEGASOY AHOY.

― hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

realized I'd eaten half of the paper wrapper.

But on the upside, think of the extra fiber you got!

― j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Pleasant Plains and I may be on the same wavelength again. Jose Ole frozen chicken/cheese/green chili chimichangas...? Two or three times a week, two at a time, yes please.

― Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I do not understand the appeal of burritos.

Don't ever speak to me again.

I actually used to have one a week, but I'm on a health kick and haven't had any for a bout a month now.

― Nevada Lime (nordicskilla), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

About 2 per week for me.

― o. nate (onate), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

If you're careful about holding certain items, burritos can be quite healthy!

― Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

tell me more, please.

― Nevada Lime (nordicskilla), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

One a week, wheat tortilla.

― Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

why not get a taco (or 3) or an enchilada or a chimichanga? the success of burritos seems like "gringos like when you put a whole bunch of shit all in one thing, regardless of how it ends up tasting."
i'm honestly puzzled.

― oops (Oops), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

four a week, made by me. when I go out for mexican I get enchiladas or something.

― teeny (teeny), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, lately I have gotten two or three tacos instead of a burrito. Although they def. pile in all that lettuce, beans, tomatoes, cheese, and sour cream as much as they can onto a tiny corn tortilla.

― jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

'Cuz burritos have built-in convenience that you get all of it in your hand, wrapped-up. You can't get that with enchiladas or chimichangas.

tacos are usually smaller, more numerous, and not as many kinds of ingredients(no rice, for example).

― kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops, you are silly.

― Nevada Lime (nordicskilla), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

But "real"

― Nevada Lime (nordicskilla), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i am so getting a burrito tonight because of this thread.

― mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

tell me more, please.

things to avoid: refried beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole (although it has "good" fat), and any other dairy based sauces. Substitute whole beans and/or rice.

chicken, especially grilled is much better than any red meat or pork.

Sometimes burritos are just too huge too.

― Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

But Sour cream and Guac taste so good!

― Nevada Lime (nordicskilla), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"i like refried beans. i would like to try fried beans, because maybe they are just as good, and we are wasting time."

― mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

see exactly. rice should not be in a tortilla with meat and sauce and beans and sour cream and guac and whatever else is in the kitchen! it's convenient, but the tastes and textures don't mesh and the tortilla is always a soggy bleh mess.

― oops (Oops), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Noooo! That is wrongness!

― Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

things to avoid: refried beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole

this is exactly the contents of my homemade burritos! (well except it's whole avocado, not guac)

― teeny (teeny), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

There are no good burritos to be had in montreal and it sucks. Homemade: about every two weeks but it's not the same.

― superultramega (superultramarinated), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

If somebody posted a recipe for good homemade burritos that would be good.

― Nevada Lime (nordicskilla), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

― cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

also, a recipe for pico de gaullo.

rice should not be in a tortilla

LIES! OUTRAGEOUS LIES!

― kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 11 July 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i love burritos. i don't eat them that often really, maybe once a month, but i try to have some variety (and health consciousness, haha) in my diet. the last mexican food i had (thursday or friday) was a quesadilla with chicken, grilled jalapenos, and scallions.

oh yeah and as far as i can tell the mexicans around here (60 miles north of the mexican border) like burritos too and seem to have no problem with them being "gringo" food.

lol we're not going to be the ones shitting bricks.

Burritos are awesome. I love burritos. They are like the easiest thing to efficiently eat the most things at once. They're like pizza wrapped into a tube.

― pomenitul, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 23:33 (six years ago)

i think the chipotle sauce had a splash of heavy cream in it and i've been avoiding that lately

― the late great, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 23:45 (six years ago)

I feel like we need ILX poster "the burrito that defined a generation" to weigh in here, perhaps they are offended by the suggestion that their only value is delicious sustenance when in fact they can sometimes define an entire generation.

― sleeve, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 23:48 (six years ago)

I was thinking about burritos this week, I feel the call

― sleeve, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 23:48 (six years ago)

the best california burritos are pretty good, but I think I like regular rice and bean burritos (with choice of meat and cheese) better

― Dan S, Thursday, 3 September 2020 00:38 (six years ago)

this here fella is still lamenting the retirement of the celebrated Taco Bell® 7-Layer™, a food item generally regarded among my peers as having contributed significantly to the cultural zeitgeist

my nearest neighborhood shop makes a Costeño (grilled tilapia, mushrooms, cabbage, poblanos, corn, and sour cream) and I've been liking that lately when I feel like getting out of my typical California or Carne Asada comfort zone, cause I'm a basic bro who needs to bureet down on the reg

― the burrito that defined a generation, Thursday, 3 September 2020 01:03 (six years ago)

btw, like all mariscos burritos, the Costeño comes with a lime wedge wrapped up within the wrapper, which is always cute af

― the burrito that defined a generation, Thursday, 3 September 2020 01:04 (six years ago)

and the wrapper should always be yellow. some posers down the street wrap theirs in this bullshit blue & white checker pattern wrapper, like what the hell is this a friggin Rally's? go yellow or go home

holy shit, there's a burrito thread?!

Everyone has a different favorite and mine keeps changing. My current preference is for carnitas, refried beans, rice, lots of cheese, and tomatillo salsa, supplemented with pickled jalapeno slices and extra green salsa

Are you me?

This is a good thread btw. Because burritos are good.

I made my own roasted tomatillo salsa last week, it was so good that I ate it up right away, will have to make it again

If a hole appeared inside your roof
And a burrito fell through it, like POOF!

You'd notice it

If after you had ate your snack
You felt a violent need to crap
"I really hope it's just a fart!"
You'd notice it
