...i know that it is almost heresy up here in the great white north....but i really only missed it around may / june when i should have been watching the playoffs.

william (william), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

I care. I missed the playoffs so much this year.

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

looks like we may be the only ones that even noticed .

william (william), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Good, now the media can go back to ignoring hockey. I think the lockout got more press than the last three seasons combined.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 14 July 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

I care kinda, a little. And I'm a fan...

Jimmy Mod Is Sick of Being The Best At Everything (ModJ), Thursday, 14 July 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

i care. but i think they may have lost me. did anyone see roenick's comments a few weeks ago about how 'fans who think we're greedy can kiss my ass'? fuck you, jeremy roenick.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 14 July 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

in keeping with the rest of the pro-owner media coverage, though, everyone played and quoted Roenick completely out of context. What he said was directed at the sector of fans that do nothing but bitch about players, salaries, etc. (and ignore the billionaire owners), and I think he's fully justified in telling them to kiss his ass. Unfortunately, it got reported as taking shots at all the fans.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 14 July 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

are they gonna have a special draft for sydney crosby? ping pong balls bingo style? is he really all that? i've never seen a single highlight.

keith m (keithmcl), Thursday, 14 July 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

1) do not tell THE FANS to kiss your ass, for god's sake. for someone who presumably will be a commentator in a couple years, he showed a complete lack of awareness

2) yeah, lots of owners are rich. but i'm pretty confident that caps owner ted leonsis has lost a shitload of money in the last few years. i don't blame the players for trying to get their share of the pie. but they don't/didn't seem to realise just how very small the pie is. NO ONE (IN THE USA) CARES ABOUT HOCKEY. there's no tv contract. etc etc. it's a great game but it just can't support the salary structure. (i know, no one force the owners to offer the contracts, i'm just saying.)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 14 July 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

I care but am still pissed off. The announcement that the league might start letting *more* teams into the playoffs that coincided with the agreement is very nhl like i.e. completelyfuckingstupid. I loathe Bettman.

xpost crosby is very very good. might depend how much they *fix* the game for o-fence and of course, if and when and how often he gets hurt.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 14 July 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

Dear NHL and NHLPA,

Please go fuck yourselves.

sincerely,

a lifelong hockey fan.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Thursday, 14 July 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

bettman took a gamble that expansion would make hockey a hit in america's sunbelt. a poor gamble, perhaps, but it wasn't just for the hell of it. he lost; contending teams will draw, then will fail just as soon as they aren't contending. at any rate, i doubt he's the guy to lead the league through its rebuilding effort.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 14 July 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

I cared this much at the beginning of the lockout:

I care this much now:

So, a little. But then again, that bar could get shorter still :-(

David A. (Davant), Thursday, 14 July 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

Go leafs go?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 14 July 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

I was once a Blackhawks fan, then Bill Wirtz and the local TV blackouts really took hold and I stopped caring completely. maybe that will no longer be the case in Chicago, maybe they'll actually air 'Hawks games, but knowing Wirtz and knowing that he's the worst owner in sports, I'm not going to bet on it.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 14 July 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

Well, as a huge hockey fan, I was not happy at there not being a season. When it returns, I will be happy. I am very easy to please.

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 14 July 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

Early season baseball completely satisfied whatever yen I would have had for playoff hockey.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 14 July 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

I love playing ice hockey, and I really like watching it live, but it's possibly one of the worst sports to try to watch on TV. So I don't know that I care very much. I used to pay attention to the Devils when I was a kid, but the only sport I bother following these days is baseball.

lyra (lyra), Thursday, 14 July 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

"but it's possibly one of the worst sports to try to watch on TV"

You're American right?

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Thursday, 14 July 2005 03:44 (twenty years ago)

Haha, but it is true that it's far better live. Then again, the same can be said for the world's greatest game, so...

David A. (Davant), Thursday, 14 July 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

(Funnily enough, hockey and football -- or soccer, if you must -- are the only two sports I've ever really cared about.)

David A. (Davant), Thursday, 14 July 2005 04:16 (twenty years ago)

"Go leafs go?"

Even though I'm REALLY pissed off. the Leafs still rule!
