an air ambulance helicopter was circling for ages, and finally the police cordoned off upper st at the business design centre to let it land in the middle of the road!

anyone have any idea what's happening? can't see the chopper from here...we're hoping it's a drill or something...

Just spoken to a friend trying to get into central London & he says that the next 3 trains are cancelled.

street still cordoned off, chopper must be there.

tempted to go down and look, since it's blocked from view, but that seems too rubbernecking...

there have been northern line problems reported this morning, hope it is nothing more serious.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps, there was a road accident and there was too much traffic for an ordinary ambulance to get through.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

Traffic on Regent Street earlier was very heavy.

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

no sirens or anything before, though. weird. it's all errie silence now. no traffic sounds...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

what jel said. tubes are always getting fucked with right now. northern line via bank was down yesterday pm, fer example.

N_RQ, Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

How weird. The 59 was reasonably less crowded and the traffic reasonable for the first time in a week this morning.

MIS Information (kate), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

Euston Road traffic heavy earlier.

N_RQ, Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:35 (twenty years ago)

michael2 (michael2), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

wow, weird. i'm going to go out in an hour or so, will be interesting to see if it's still there.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:42 (twenty years ago)

Hope someone took a photo!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

yeah it could be just a traffic accident - that chopper landed in the middle of the centre point junction, once. when someone got hit by a bus.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:58 (twenty years ago)

last Thursday that chopper landed in a park near kings cross on standby - it's weird because that park has a climbing frame that's the shape of a red helicopter. maybe it was a secret sign.

i had no camera obv.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:59 (twenty years ago)

was there a red bulldozer parked nearby as well? that woulda been ace

dahlin (dahlin), Thursday, 14 July 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

well, i was there i guess!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 July 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

true. very true.

dahlin (dahlin), Thursday, 14 July 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

I went past Upper Street at circa 9.50am, there was a bloke that had been knocked down - ambulance services were in attendance and police had stopped the traffic travelling northwards just before the design centre.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 14 July 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

there you go.

i saw a tv-on-demand documentary on HomeChoice about that very helicopter once, actually. It was called "Situation Critical".

I think I'm one of about 25 people in the world who had sat and watched that program through.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 July 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

it still feels weird to see that helicopter to be adorned with the Virgin logo and various other bits of advertising, though.
