i recently inherited my great grandmothers locket. its a simple gold circle, with a tiny pearl in the middle of it, around which is a starburst pattern. im guessing it was made in the late 1800s or early 1900s.

any suggestions as to what i should put in it? i have no older photos of family, and i think new/color photos would look silly if placed in such a lovely antique...

You should put your heart in your locket, so you can take it off.

Put an emergency valium in there.

I just bought a sweetheart a locket... an unusual rectangular shaped one, silver with a chain. Lockets are serious the best bang for your buck in the points game.

the points game?

yeah, its too small to hold pills or any drugs, other than like a hit of acid or something, haha.

come on, people...ideas?

Lock of your sweetie's hair (or your baby's if you have one). And these days any photo can be altered to a sepia tone to make it look "antique". If no sweetie and no baby, how about nice pic of your grandmum? Enjoy your locket it sounds lovely.

Yes, I was going to suggest a lock of hair, which is the traditional thing to be kept in lockets since before the days of photography.

(I have no idea whose hair I'd ever put in a locket, which is why my locket remains unworn in my jewelery box.)

the thought of wearing someone's hair around seems a little ew to me. sorry! pic of your sweetheart, baby or grandmum sounds like good advice though. use a b&w one if the colour freaks you out.

It has a strong flavour of sympathetic magic, but "ew"? It's only hair!

well i did say sorry. yes i find hair that is unattached to a scalp a bit ew. just a thing. i think it has something to do with it being dead skin cells? i have some obsessive cleanliness tendencies (frenzies) and other people's old hair just seems dirty to me. i can't explain it.

Fair enough. I have some odd phobias myself.

(I'm glad I didn't suggest "baby teeth" then, as well.)

*shudders* me too! oh that sent shivers up my spine haha the thought of someone with baby teeth in their locket. my phobias are stupid.
