Some of us are going to the pub. Thought some of you might want to, too.

The pub in qn is the Bloomsbury Tavern near Covent Garden - http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub151.htm

We're going to try and install an early posse upstairs, from about 5.15. Even so it's a risky pub, because quite small, so if you don't see us then text somebody you know, (we will almost certainly be in the Lousy).

Lovely to see you, if we see you.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 15 July 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

I've never been in there, though I've walked by it tons of times.

Will try to make it, though I'll probably be down after banking hours.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 15 July 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

I have to be in Knightsbridge at 4:30 as I am sorely in need of a haircut, and after that will probably do my usual end-of-the-working-week record shopping therapy, so unlikely to be there much before seven I would have thought, but I will try to be there, so please keep a seat spare for me!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 15 July 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

I can't make this one but pass on my love and kisses to one and all!!!

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 15 July 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

The upstairs will be fine for our needs if we can get it. Steve and Pete (aka Pub Crashers) are 'on the case' though.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 15 July 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

I'll come down after a trip to stamfords.

Ed (dali), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

I'd really like to see you lot soon, but tonight is out for me.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

is Pub Crashers the name of pete and me's* indie band?

*how should i phrase this properly please, it's melting my brane slightly...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

"Is Pub Crashers the name of Pete's indie band? If not, is it mineine?"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, that should read mineses.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

Would it be extreme for me and Chris to come down?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

my and pete's?

sgs (sgs), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

It would probably be X-cellent.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

see you all 8-ish? sistrah becky is off to la swanky france and needs to sort stuff w.me b4 she goes

ed did you get my email? if not i will talk to you tonight: it is not remotely urgent

mark s (mark s), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

Tissp once you've been to one FAP you have, in a very real sense, been to them all. (i.e. feel free)

Tom (Groke), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

Sarah is right, and "Pete's and my..." is just as good. "Me and Pete's..." works fine too - you can treat 'me and Pete' as a compound noun and give it a single possessive, you just can't do that if you name Pete first, because of the irregularity of 'my'.

This is the sort of rubbish I can discuss for ages, but maybe not tonight - I've not been sleeping well, I've been waking up early and eating a cooked meal every second or third day, and the hot weather drains my energy too, so I'm feeling astoundingly exhausted, and barely staggering through life. I'll pop along if I have any energy, but it might be a short visit, if at all.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

I don't mind the Pub Crashes as the name for our band, but I still need a name for me and Alan's synth duo, not to mention the avant-garde experimental pop collective I'm setting up with Tom.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

yes I did, mark, haven't had a chance to reply

Ed (dali), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

Blancmalang
God Speed You Sherriff Fatman

mark s (mark s), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

'Mine and Pete's' actually sounds better to me, even if it is wrong (they ALL seem equally wrong to me).

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

dear god i am making CARTER jokes

mark s (mark s), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

mine is surely correct cf MINE HOST (which applies as pete is one)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

S'ok. I've even been making CATHAR jokes.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

plz ppl at work give me something to do plz thx HULLO

mark s (mark s), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

i think "the nindie band that pete and i have discussed forming" might be better...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

(I just hope that no one notices that I'm wearing the same shirt as at the last FAP.)

((God, I shouldn;t have pointed it out, then, should I?))

(((But if I didn't point it out, I was afraid someone would think I hadn't changed since then. I do own MANY horribly loud shirts.)))

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Yes ILX FAPs are a notorious haunt of the fashion police.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

Well, Suzy might be there!

::ducks::

Suzy will have seen this shirt 3 times in 2 weeks if she turns up! Oh no!

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

plz ppl at work give me something to do plz thx HULLO

careful what you wish for ;) (OTM tho)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

You could set up my horrible Crystal Report.

Without the ability to create Views. Or even a schema of the bloody database...

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

Sorry guys, I don't think I can ILX FAP for a while yet. xx

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

Understand. If you need anything Marianna please let me know, I'm only round the corner in Crouch End.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 15 July 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

Sarah is right, and "Pete's and my..." is just as good. "Me and Pete's..." works fine too - you can treat 'me and Pete' as a compound noun and give it a single possessive, you just can't do that if you name Pete first, because of the irregularity of 'my'.

but isn't me the objective case? pete and I's?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 July 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Shall we just call us the The Pub Crashers and this will be moot.
Actually i don't like it, it sounds a bit too geezery.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 15 July 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

how about the cub prashers?

cub pressurers?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 July 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

pub crushers

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 15 July 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

The Crass Pubbers

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 15 July 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

Will B. Moot is yr 80s soul duo

mark s (mark s), Friday, 15 July 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

Many's the time Robbie Vincent played their "slow jams" as he urged us to light the candles and open the freezer door, but obv not vice versa.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 15 July 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking of starting a mid-70's pop side project called Fizzy Piglet. Anyone want to join?

I can't FAP tonight. Damn.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I'd be up for Fizzy Piglet. What's the glam/skronk ratio?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

It's high. Lots of bubblepop moog a la Chicory Tip. No skronk. The whole thing has to be so lightweight as to make Ricky Wilde sound like CAptain Beefheart.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

I'll do it if I get to be the equivalent of the piano playing old lady in Lieutenant Pigeon

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

bubblepop moog

I'm in!

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

I might have to put on a few pounds but I think I can manage it:

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Ken, I think the objective case is correct in that phrase, but it seems moot since 'my' is the only first person possessive available to us anyway, short of horrible periphrasis like "the indie band that is Pete's and mine" which clearly makes matters worse.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

THE TIME HAS COME, TO PETEANDI'S

Chemicah T Bruzzahole (blueski), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Well, Dr C, I must bring my vintage Lyricon to your rehearsals.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

You must. We also need one of those double piano things like Sailor. Dada you can certainly be Hilda Woodward if that's what turns you on.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

haha, I really hope Dr C knew her name without looking it up. If you had to look it up on AMG or something, don't tell me!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

Of course I knew it!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 15 July 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

I don't know the names of the three blokes though. One is Rob Woodward (Hilda's boy) - I think he's the middle one.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 15 July 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Arrr, I'm too distracted to hang around. I'm off down the pub now. Be there in 10, 15 minutes.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 15 July 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

be there in 5

Ed (dali), Friday, 15 July 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

I shall be there at 9.30. Bit lame I know...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 15 July 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

Thanks to people who came out last night, the ones who could stay and the ones who couldn't. There's never a good time or place to hear bad news but there's a least worst.

The amazing thing about London ILX is how few people there are who used to come out - to FAPs, to club nights - and now don't. Stay safe, all of you: you're a good bunch.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 16 July 2005 06:21 (twenty years ago)

I was running late on Friday and it was well past eight before I'd finished my shopping, etc., so I just went home as I was too tired to do anything else and I had to be up early to meet friends on Saturday.

It's probably just as well I didn't come, given what happened - due to absence from computers and non-updating of crap weekend newspapers, I've only just learned the news.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 18 July 2005 06:37 (twenty years ago)

It was good at least to be around friends when I heard the news.

My bus was in a traffic accident on the way home. Our nerves were so on edge at the pub that a backfiring scooter ended conversation for a minute and a half. But after a naval ration of rum, numb with grief, a car drove into the side of the 159 and I barely noticed.
